Fortaleza Blanco Still Strength Tequila
Tequila Blanco — Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed August 24, 2023 (edited September 15, 2023)Wasn't sold on Fortaleza Blanco, but was told the Still Strength is where it's at. Local bar got stocked with the full range so decided to take advantage. Aromas of sweet agave, a little vegetal, but pleasant. Tropical fruit on the palate, herbs, pepper, beautifully thick mouthfeel, with a long finish with mint and olive brine. Beats the hell out of the regular Blanco in my opinion, but doesn't quite reach the heights Fuentaseca does (but this used to be like $75/bottle). -
Fuenteseca Cosecha 2018 Blanco Tequila
Tequila Blanco — Mexico
Reviewed August 15, 2023 (edited August 16, 2023)Aromas of peach cobbler, a little hibiscus, stewed greens. Flavors of licorice, cinnamon, sassafras, cola - basically all the best herbal dessert flavors, slightly briny, with a rich mouthfeel that just coats the mouth, but with no ethanol burn. Get a little black tea and pepper on the finish. Best blanco I've had the pleasure of tasting; it has that 1146 DNA with some similar flavors to the Don Fulano Blanco, but this takes it to a new level. -
Don Fulano Blanco Tequila
Tequila Blanco — Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed August 14, 2023 (edited August 15, 2023)Some dark fruit, cream, and cola aromas. Some herbal flavors like anise and maybe a little clove, with some raisin and a sweetness reminiscent of a Belgian strong ale. Finish is a little drier, still herbal, a little spice. Yet another great offering from 1146. -
Some fruity peach and melon aromas, along with some mineral that is apparent when not immediately following a sniff of Siembra Valles. A little vegetal on the palate, with some of those cement and orange pith notes in there. Comes across as a more restrained and balanced version of SV with a better mouthfeel, which itself is pretty good.80.0 USD per Bottle

The nose has a little bit of conifer tree with an obvious lactic/cheesy funk, but apparently some don't get the cheese. On the palate there's some anise, goat cheese, tea, sour apple, with a moderately long earthy finish. It's not my favorite but it's so interesting that it makes me want to try more raicillas.
