Sacred Stave American Single Malt Whiskey
American Single Malt — Arizona, USA
Reviewed July 20, 2023Clean, fruity nose. Light mouthfeel, bread, slight bitterness. Some ethanol on the finish, which is the weakest aspect. Better than I was expecting. -
The Single Malts of Scotland Ben Nevis 9
Single Malt — Scotland
Reviewed July 15, 2023 (edited July 16, 2023)On the nose I get honey, apple blossom, syrup, and a little ethanol. Super floral, with a nice oily mouthfeel, a little caramel, and a slightly herbal finish (maybe some black tea) with some toffee and ethanol burn. A little bit of water opens it up nicely. I was pretty impressed with this considering the age statement, it does a good job showcasing the distillate. Probably one of the better malts I've had with a sub-10 age statement.90.0 USD per Bottle -
Last in the lineup - funky nose with a hint of cheese. Slightly earthy palate, some cheese, vegetal. Bit of ethanol on the finish. A little water brings out the agave and rounds it out a little. This seems to straddle the line between tequila and raicilla. Probably the most interesting Blanco I've had.

Siembra Valles Blanco Tequila
Tequila Blanco — Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed July 11, 2023Lots of mineral on the nose and palate. Dry, granite (or maybe feldspar), orange pith. Tastes like sucking on a rock in the best possible way. -
Blend of two agaves, which are roasted with firewood and fermented with spring water for 5 days. The nose is creamy, which is a new one for me. I get a little wintergreen, custard, and cherry on the palate; possibly the mesquite smoke contributes some sweeter flavors. The finish is more vegetal, with some cinnamon and cardamom as well. This is a pick from Cellars Fine Wine and Spirits in Phoenix, AZ.120.0 USD per Bottle

This one was an Afficionados selection. Because they thought it could use a little resting before bottling, they took the distilled product and buried it underground for 25 months. Hence, "enterrado". This one is a bit on the herbal side, with mint and anise on the nose. It has a juicy mouthfeel, with more anise and some dark fruit, thinking plum. Smoke and pepper arrive in the finish. This one's the smokiest of the 5S I've had, but it's still far more subdued than what's typical from a cheap mezcal.
