Laphroaig 33 Year The Ian Hunter Story Book 3
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed September 21, 2023 (edited September 22, 2023)At first, I get some custard and licorice on the nose, but it becomes fruitier and softer as it airs. Just a wisp of sea breeze with some salted caramel. One of the best aromas I've had the pleasure of enjoying on any spirit. The palate is syrupy, fruity, with a hint of seaweed, some creme brulee, baklava, and a wisp of smoke. There's a slight grassiness that largely dissipates with air, and it tastes better and better as it breathes. I'd probably rate this a 96 or so on a 100 point scale - it may not be the best thing possible, but it managed to meet or exceed my very lofty expectations. Had the option of getting Book 4 instead, but went with this because I was worried a sherry finish could mask character of a 33 year aged Laphroiag, and I think it was the right call.1300.0 USD per Bottle -
Tequila Tapatio Blanco 110
Tequila Blanco — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed September 21, 2023 (edited April 25, 2024)Vegetal, oily, little bit of green pepper. Finish gets a little earthier with some cinnamon and pepper. Not my favorite still strength by any means, but it's an outstanding candidate for a goto cocktail tequila. -
Siete Leguas Añejo Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed September 20, 2023 (edited September 21, 2023)Nose of brown sugar, blackberry, custard. Sweet, but not strong, flavors. On the palate, immediately met with caramel and oak, a little mint, and some creamier flavors. Solid mouthfeel. Finish was unimpressive, lightly bitter, some pine, not much else that stuck out. Pretty solid, and worth having around if it's under $60.55.0 USD per Bottle -
Tequila Tapatio Añejo
Tequila Añejo — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed September 19, 2023 (edited June 18, 2024)Some cooked agave, fresh mint, hint of oak on the nose. Slight potpourri-like herbal essence. Faint, damp air. Light body, some oak, wintergreen, agave, toothpaste. Vegetal and agave-forward. Herbal finish, some pine sap, simple syrup. I don't love it - Not a whole lot going on here, could pass for a reposado.65.0 USD per Bottle -
2nd new addition to the Laphroaig collection - immediately I get a lot of caramel, vanilla, apple on the nose, with a little iodine that dissipates with air. The palate has some caramel, custard, moss, kippers, smoke. Pretty solid offering, think I slightly prefer it to Lore - the use of first-fill bourbon barrels has an obvious impact.150.0 USD per Bottle

Laphroaig Càirdeas 2023 White Port & Madeira Casks
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed September 18, 2023 (edited December 5, 2023)Drove way out of my way to get this (and a couple other goodies) because for some reason it hasn't made its way here... the nose is sweet and fruity, with honey, vanilla, peach, papaya, and almost none of the signature Laphroaig iodine. Fruity palate, peach, grape, caramel, cured meat, hint of salt, with the smoke finally becoming more prominent on the finish. Rich, but without the tannins and bitterness of sherry cask Laphroaigs.95.0 USD per Bottle -
Springbank 17 Year Madeira Wood
Single Malt — Campbelltown , Scotland
Reviewed September 15, 2023 (edited September 16, 2023)On the nose I get some berries, pound cake, a salted caramel, and generally a lot of influence from the wine. Palate is a little more all over the place, with some prune, dates, caramel, balsamic, and something a little herbal on the finish. Through that a light wisp of smoke persists in the background. The nose on this is great, and it's got a pretty nice, thick mouthfeel despite being "only" 48-ish abv. Reading reviews on it, it seems I like this more than most, although it I suspect the price influenced peoples' perception (although Local Barley costs just as much now...). -
Ballechin 2009 11 Year (The Ultimate)
Single Malt — Highland, Scotland
Reviewed September 14, 2023 (edited September 15, 2023)r/scotch selection. Just killed the bottle... Sweet peat, pear, caramel on the nose. Peat, bbq palate, fruity, earthy, a little hot. Finish a little dry and bitter, with some dark fruits in the background. Has some interesting flavors that make me want to keep coming back to it, but definitely benefits from a few drops of water. -
Wild Common Tequila Reposado
Tequila Reposado — Tequila Valley, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed September 13, 2023 (edited September 15, 2023)The nose really reminds me of the desert after rain - wet creosote, minerals. The barrel is in the background, and the agave is very much in control - there are some vegetal notes, herbs, parsley, with a little eathier finish. The short time in the barrel adds just a hint of caramel. The nose is what really shines here.
