Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch A121
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATastedJust got done tasting Bardstown discovery # 4 which is great but doesn’t stack up to this. Definitely one of my favorite batches and at $69 (used to be $59) can’t beat it. Perfect proof, age, get the citrus note, along with candied oak, slightly burnt brown sugar, & milk chocolate. Neck pour, this is delicious
Bardstown Bourbon Co. Discovery Series #4
Bourbon — USATastedSolid bourbon, never had Bardstown before, heard great things... Just found it in NC. Top Tier for sure, delicate nose, nice oak Influence, typical bourbon notes, strong rye kick, chocolate, berry notes... Medium to long finish. Oaked Candy in a glass is a great description Would rate higher but it’s $139 MSRP. Given what BTAC goes for aftermarket that’s a brilliant price point, almost stacks up (just falling a tad bit short). Given I can get those at retail $99 once In a blue moon or even 12 year EC Bfroof pretty consistently at 59-$69, this keeps me from rating higher. Value has to play a role but don’t pass, it’s great (cork has to be worth $30 lol), don’t overpay or load up. If this were $79-$99 would buy all day but feel they are a bit on high end at $139. I’ll stick to EC 12 year BProof, OF 1920, and JDaniels BP all day and readily available for $59-$69...
Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Stength
Tennessee — Tennessee, USATastedHad to rate this again, have had several bottles since initial review . This is very consistent for a single barrel. Not sure why but different than your normal jack Daniels profile... This is a desert drinker, think a previous review said bananas foster with burnt brown sugar in a glass and that’s true, would love to know the age on this, guessing 7-8 years? Not much oak but it is one of the darker whiskeys I’ve had, def not young/rushed. Can always find which makes this a standout in my book, holds its own against a lot of the BT stuff that’s impossible to find...And at a very fair price, $60/$65 barrel proof single barrel. Love it!
Belle Meade Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — USATastedHad the old one labeled “cask strength” and loved it so have been seeking this one out. Very well done Belle Meade, love this one, perfect proof point, taste like it has some age (would guess 8-10 years)? Medium, thick and oily. Smooth for proof. Caramel and cherry bomb for me, medium finish. Longer finish would knock this to 4.75. Great, would pay $59 all day...
Elijah Craig Toasted Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATastedWay better than distiller rating, drinks hotter than 94 proof but in a good way. Very flavorful, think the s’mores description is pretty accurate. Has gotten better every time I’ve tried over last 4 days. Think this is good addition to line up, a toasted barrel proof or something 100+ would be killer, that’s my only complaint is 94 proof is a bit low at this price point. Still a good buy and one you definitely need to try.
George Dickel Bottled in Bond Tennessee Whisky 11 Year (Fall 2008)
Tennessee — Tennessee, USATastedLike this better than 13 year, better nose, don’t get the vitamin taste at all, and better oak profile, candied vs bitter? Get the peanut but more of a honey roasted note.
Wild Turkey Master's Keep Bottled in Bond 17 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATastedExcellent bourbon, typical WT profile and the oak is a sweet oak with a great finish for 100 proof. Only fault I have is for a $175 bottle wish they would make this a higher proof non chill filtered for the price point, similar to the BTACs, would love to taste this straight from barrel. Still very good but have had some SB Russel’s reserve store picks lately for $59 that stack up to this. Update 6/11/20- the nose is a 5 * for sure, could smell this S*** all night. Still sticking with original rating, do start to get that Smokey note to, good though.
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch A120
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATastedJust blind it, regardless of price this is an exceptional bourbon. At $59 it’s a must buy in my book. Love the C918, A120 , I like the C919 slightly better out of the three. Splitting hairs I know, similar, but I’m a proof guy and C919 is a very balanced medley of caramel, vanilla, brown sugar, nutmeg, tobacco(light), red fruit, and sweet oak. The C919 edges this (sweater, smoother, higher proof) but still great. ECBP is the best available bourbon I can find most all the time and would put against most all of those you will never find( except WLW). A120 is REALLY good but C919 is best so far for me.
Booker's Bourbon Batch 2020-01 "Granny's Batch"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATastedThis has opened up a bit and not so bitter and harsh now, still not great but definitely get more sweet notes along with a strong peanut profile. Kinda peanut brittle like the Distiller review said.
John J Bowman Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Virginia, USATastedFor $49 at 100 proof I’ll buy this all day long. Definitely get similar notes to Blanton’s so see the similarity but hey I like this better and seems easier to find. Put this in a Blanton’s bottle and most of the buffalo trace junkies would pick this 9 out of 10 times blind . Smooth as heck for 100 proof.
