Bunnahabhain 12 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed September 25, 2014 (edited March 7, 2015)The nose has nuttiness, creamy vanilla, grape, and touch of Islay brine. The palate is clean and similar to the nose, but there's a hint of smoke, and the wood plays a bigger part. The whole experience is syrupy and creamy, like nectar. -
Bruichladdich The Laddie Ten
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed September 24, 2014 (edited April 24, 2018)The nose has powerful herbs, dry vegetation, subtle citrus, salt, and a fruity sweetness that hides from everything else. The palate is an evolving chameleon creature of mouth watering Islay maritime favors, plus citrus, that begins as crisp and biting. With time in the glass it becomes mellowed and fruity, but never loses any flavors. Holy smokes! Why have I wasted so much time in waiting to try this stuff? -
One of the first bottles I bought when learning single malt scotch whisky. I instantly learned how to pick up brine in the nose, and oil on the palate. I'll never forget that my first impression of this stuff was like chewing on young driftwood soaked in seawater. However, now that I've learned to appreciate it, I always have a bottle!

A bit too pricey for me to buy another bottle, but worth the money if your preferred flavor profile includes an array of the many basic flavors that single malts have to offer. Best part is the nose. It is balanced and interesting on the palate, but not charismatic. It isn't especially complex. Also, the finish lingers, but loses what complexity the palate had. I rounded up to 4 stars.
