    I think this is a rum you’re either going to love or you’re to hate. It’s very oaky and grassy, sugary, and a touch of spice — subtle hints of rye whiskey without the rye. It’s a solid rum for the whiskey drinker. Gradually becoming one of my favorites.

    Terrible cheap scotch. Only smells of smoke but tastes of nothing. Not worth a buy even as a gift.

    On the nose, burnt molasses (or sugar), allspice, black licorice and alcohol. On the tongue, burnt molasses, raisin, black licorice and allspice with a mild alcohol burn. The taste won’t be everyone’s favorite and takes some getting used to. A quality sipping rum. Not one of my favorites but a solid choice.

    Sweet, fruity with a touch of peat on the nose and tongue. Not a traditional scotch as this scotch has no smokiness. More like the French whiskey Bastille 1789 but without a lingering finish. It’s definitely sippable to a fault but more whiskey than scotch in my opinion.

    Pretty good rye. On par with James Pepper and a notch below Knob Creek. Not as buttery, definitely runs hot. I like this rye, but I don’t love it.

    Brilliant rum. Toasty, honey/caramel and sweet on the nose and the mouth. This is the rum I think of when I’m in the Caribbean. Rating is pending until I try the older expressions of this.

    On the nose kind of caramel, honey and fruity. On the tongue, fruity, honey, a touch medicinal, deceptively spicy and surprisingly hot. A fruity finish lingers a bit. Good but not great and a bit overrated.

    Pretty terrible on its own — like drinking a spiced kitchen sink, a rum traffic jam. Exceedingly better mixed — with coke or a tropical punch to downplay the mess.
