Arran Machrie Moor Cask Strength 3rd Edition (2016 Release)
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed May 24, 2020 (edited November 3, 2022)Really fresh peat notes. The sting of the 58% is real. Smells sweet like a teriyaki beef jerky. Behind the alcohol burn there is a lovely full underlying sweetness of red apples, grass, dried plum, and pure chocolate. The finish is surprisingly short with a little weird bitterness like orange pith and overextracted coffee.50.0 EUR per Bottle -
Peat and sea on the nose. Underlying fresh notes of citrus and tobacco and campfire (the one with a little too much wet wood). A little sherry. Taste: citrus notes. Caramel, meaty and well balanced sweetness. Sherry barrel is really present. Long lingering finish. Buttery and caramel. After a minute it switches back to fresh fruits. Amazing whisky.65.0 EUR per Bottle

clear peat on the nose, but not so overwhelming that you cant smell anything else. sweet undertones with a hint of vanilla and orange. when sipping, the body is full and rich with clear barrel spices, and some peat. chocolate and dark fruit develops. on the finish there is chocolate, and some tobacco, almost meaty. the finish is long. an amazing whisky for its price.45.0 EUR per Bottle

Bright peat nose with apples, slight citrus and a bit of vanilla hiding behind it. Smoky taste but not as harsh as I expected based on the nose. There is a rich fruitiness, citrus and honey underneath. Pretty sweet and surprising. The finish is medium long with caramel and a bit of tobacco, and that peat is back here. I like it A few drops of water really mellows the smoke and peat down. It tastes a lot sweeter after that.

blind tasted next to cardhu 12. very light nose. apples, pear, lime. hints of orange. vanilla dominates. light on the palate with more fresh fruit. spices (clove or cinnamon?) but not harsh. hints of chocolate and fresh cut grass. pretty sweet. Overal pretty smooth but on the weaker side. short finish with a bit of sherry cask coming through. decent whisky for a hot day, but this would not be a good sipper for me. a few drops of water totally destroys this whisky.

A rich nose with some vanilla, overly present sherry, dried fruits and plums. The alcohol notes are surprisingly harsh on the nose for a 40% whisky. The flavor has chocolate added to it. Very fruity. Rich cherry finish. Pear on the finish. This whisky does not profit from adding water. The sherry notes get tones down, and the chocolate gets accepted.
