Tastes

On the nose there is a sweetness and a lot of citrus. Vanilla and sugared cereals. Taste: dried plums, caramel, citrus and liquorice. Finish: medium long with caramel and tobacco. For the price (27 euro/bottle) this is an amazing whisky that is incredibly hard to beat.

As its a travel exclusive, and rather cheap, i didnt have much hope. But i gave this one a shot because i just love ancnoc 12. Nose: peaty, but not the medicinal/bandaid kind of peaty that you'll often find in islay scotch. More like a seaside wind, with seaweed and shellfish. There is a fruityness behind the peat with citrus and some tropical fruit notes. vanilla is certainly there. also some green apple. Taste: This is a 3-stage experience. 1: sweetness with some apple, grass, and citrus. 2: there is the peat! a slight burn here makes me think this wkisky is kind of young. 3: this develops into nutty flavors with caramel and vanilla. Finish: mostly caramel, vanilla and a bit of coffee. It is medium long and doesn't disappoint.

Color: normally i dont comment on color, but this whisky is so light in color that i just had to mention it. like it has only been in contact with wood for a very short time, or the wood has been reused very often. Nose: very light and simple. a bit unappealing actually. I get light peat, lemon zest, and vanilla. not much more. Taste: also here its light. Light on the peat, and then a LOT of sweetness. i can get cookie dough, ripe banana, dried apricots, caramel. a bit oily. Finish: gone before you know it. dark chololate and peat on the finish. I would recommend this on a summer evening when you are not looking for deep interesting whiskies that keep on giving, or for people who are new to peated territory. For the price its an OK whisky, but its just too simple to please in the long term. the taste will grow on you after a couple of sips, but it will never blow you away.

Nose: Peat, tar and iodine. also green apple, ginger and slightly overripe pineapple. Taste: Peat, vanilla and oak. Very oily, with lime and orange peel. Creamy. Finish: very long, with dark chocolate and peat lingering on your tongue and back of your throat. Adding some drops of water really opens up this whisky. it tones down the smoke and peat, and brings forth more sweet fruity notes of the lime and orange, and the vanilla also really gets a boost.

The nose: first thing that hit me was the peat. While it isnt dominant like in a classic Islay, there is something strange about this that ive not encountered before. The main note that i get from this nose is synthetic rubber. exactly like smelling a new inner tube of a bicycle. That main note is also a bot mixed with leather and dried cow manure. I dont like this at all, but 14 years ago i said the same thing about Islay scotch... There is a sweetness behind the rubber, with hay and citrus and a lot of caramel malt. What a turn on the palate. nothing weird and offputting here any longer. Light peat, vanilla, cherries, and again that caramel malt that you'll find in dark beers. a bit spicy. the finish is medium long with caramel and honey. i'll be sure to review it again in a couple of months, once i get used to the nose.

First thing on the nose is a sweet fruityness with the main ingredient strawberries and vanilla. Some citrus and almonds. The relative young age is apparent in the taste. there is a burn here. i get dried fruits on the palate, with lemon peel. after that there is a caramel taste dominating. The white oak is quite dominant, together with spices. I get a bit if cinnamon, peppercorn, and a hint of licorice. Overal full and sweet. the finish is long with chocolate dominating.

Nice fruity malt, with red fruit on the nose. Vanilla and the obvious cherry cask is there, together with lighter notes of red apples, spices like cinnamon, and I think I smell a hint of banana. The nose is surprisingly sharp for a 46% ABV whisky. The taste is rich and oily, with dried confectionery fruit. Caramel and vanilla. I get mostly chocolate and pepper on the finish, which is long.

lemons, raspberry, malt and cinnamon on the nose very rounded sweet taste. dried red and black fruit. chocolate and cloves. long lasting finish which develops from chocolate to caramel to more fruit.

Peaty and meaty smell. Not too harsh. Fresh notes of citrus, green apple and freshly cut grass linger behind the smoke. The peat is dominant in the taste, but soon you are welcomed by an oily and fruity taste of apples, pear, and vanilla. Very full and fruity. Caramel and a subtle oakiness dominate the finish

Peaty and smoky nose, with fresh undertones of citrus, blackberries and apples. Peat and dark chocolate taste, with again those blackberry flavors. Full, rich and smooth The finish is fantastic and long, with tobacco, chocolate, and dark oak notes.
