Tastes

I love peated whiskies. I really do. But Ledaig 10y.o. seemed kind of heavy to me and the aromas were like too massive and too sweet at one time. Not that I didn't enjoy it but I have other favourites in the class.

Being attracted by great ratings of HP 12 and 18 I decided to start from the least mature malt of the renowned distillery. And to be honest - I got slightly disappointed. It is a decent whisky, with a very interesting aroma, but taste is very mediocre with nothing to discover there. I will try HP 12 this week and I really hope it will do better (85PLN, 0,35l).

Very interesting one. Nose is somewhat smoky or something like sea air, while the palate is like a rollercoaster of several (and wonderful) tastes of all kinds - fruity, smoky, herbal and exotic. I definitely need to have some extra with Old Pultenty :)

Very good, well balanced blend. It's a shame that it is so underrated by distiller.

Exceptionally smooth Irish Whiskey. With all smoke, fruit and wood accents and almost no burn. Very nice stuff.

Drink for real men. It is so perfectly balanced, yet build around smoke and peat – but also spicy and somewhat sweet. With the nose being a one and only experience that cannot be mistaken with anything else (190PLN).

Actually I don't know do I prefer this one over an Old No 7. It is kind of lighter, more fruity and closer to classic bourbons. Good, affordable liquor tough (95PLN promo).

For sure this is a nice and complex blend. With a lot of smoke, tar and some sweetness. Still I would either go for a decent peated single malt or a rich, sweet bourbon. Having both of these in one glass is an interesting experience, but not the one that fits my taste (120PLN).

What a story! I am sipping whisky distilled in Czechoslovakia - behind the Iron Curtain. It is very malty, smooth and kind of velvet on the tongue. No special complexity in the taste, but I was surprised with how smooth and clean this one is - barley and oak. And that is pretty much it, no fireworks here. Nevertheless - this is a very nice "world" whisky - and I am adding 1 star for the story :) (32EUR)

Nothing extraordinary here. Still it is a splendid "everyday" whisky.
