New Southern Revival Jimmy Red Corn Bourbon
Bourbon — South Carolina , USA
Reviewed January 30, 2023Nose: sweet and slightly sour, like an old gym bag. Very young smelling. Past the slight funk is a prominent sweetness. Palate: definitely getting the corn forward sweetness but it lacks any distinctive body to the flavors Finish: really short lasting sweetness, slight vanilla pound cake on the finish. Why buy this when you have get mellow corn? -
Jack Daniel's Twice Barreled American Single Malt (2022 Release)
American Single Malt — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed January 24, 2023Not putting too much thought into it tonight here are some basic notes. I’ll definitely revisit this for an in depth review. Nose: sweet n sour gummy worm, queen Ann cherries, dried plums Palate: dark fruit, bananas fosters Finish: chocolate, brown sugar, oak75.0 USD per Bottle -
Nose: sweet sweet peanut brittle. If I didn’t know any better I’d say this was a Russell’s pick. Palate: some candied pecans, and some slightly bitter but pleasant barrel tannins, but I can’t seem to pull anything else out of it. Finish: the finish outshines the palate, oak is definitely here along with big red gum and some cayenne in the back of the throat. Not what I expected from the nose so it was fun!

Nose: queen Ann cherries, pecan meltaway, pull n peel Twizzlers, candied orange slices Palate: gentle and oily at first but then a kick of black pepper/hot tamales punches mid palate. Finish: smokey sweet pipe tobacco, and the cherry/orange/nutty flavors are just dancing around FOREVER this is some top tier but gentle juice. I have to concentrate on the flavors because they are layered so nicely that if I wasn’t paying attention I would pound through this glass.

Nose: very oak forward as expected, dark candied cherries, canned chocolate frosting, and that classic Jim Beam nuttiness Palate: oak is not out of balance even with it being 18 years old, plenty of sweet Virginia pipe tobacco, and leather, very rich on the palate Finish: slight bitterness (oak tannins?) are balanced nicely with the high cocoa chocolate, and a little nutty dryness that is a dead giveaway for Jim beam. Dryness disappears and I’m left with pipe tobacco and wood lingering for several minutes 85/100 or 4.25/5169.0 USD per Bottle

Neat in a glencairn Appearance: golden copper with slow forming thicc legs Nose: baked apples and buttery cinnamon streusel Palate: slightly thin on the palate but then pops with dried fruit and nuts…like trail mix missing the m&m’s Finish: sweet nuttiness and red cinnamon candy, and the apple comes back through in the end. Solid 82 (converts to 4.1) this is an instant buy for me

Tasted neat in a glencairn Nose: smells like a werther’s caramel that has been sitting in the bottom of your grandmother’s leather purse for the better part of two decades Palate: ultra soft caramel fudge, rich mouthfeel and the creamy filling from a Queen Ann cherry. The oaky presence is bold and obvious. Finish: little burst of tart citrus, plenty of cherry, oak and caramel to last. Killer dram, thanks @LandryG for sharing!!

Sometimes my friends give incredible blind samples. Sometimes my friends are the worst. This was mixed in a set of blinds from @thechad Nose: honestly this smells like the bottom of a sweaty gym bag. I’m scared to taste it, but I’ve got to give a review to find out what this is. Palate: vegetal bitterness. As I swirled it around my mouth I was getting hints of black licorice but as soon as I swallowed I shuddered and the unmistakable taste of canned green bean juice hit me. I’ve only gotten this note in one whiskey before and this has got to be pure Kentucky. Finish: regret. 6.9/100
