Barrell Bourbon Batch 031
Bourbon — (bottled in) Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 7, 2022 (edited November 26, 2022)Aroma huge oaky and vanilla..brown sugar, fruits even slight tropical note. Caramel, … faint hint of baking spices. The aroma is tremendous. Really hope the taste follows suit. Taste- well that wasn’t what I was expecting. Completely different than the nose… sweet up front then rye-like spice mid palate then massively sweet finish …. creamy vanilla finish. Might be the most vanilla I’ve experienced. Some almond like notes come up on in proceeding sips. Man these barrel batches are so unique. 31>>>29>30 -
Weller 12 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 25, 2021 (edited September 14, 2022)Did a side by side with this and Pappy 12 (Lot B) Nearly identical except Lot B had a bit more balance. This one seemed to be a little more sweet. Great bourbon.. but similar to Pappy, price seems a bit high —- Aroma- huge apples & pears, honey, toasted marshmallow, vanilla, hint of baking spices. Not getting a ton of oak.. very minimal to be honest. On the backed..getting a slight blackberry jam. Taste - man.. that is extremely light… too light. This is “pillow-soft”.. light and airy. There is absolutely no finish on this. All the flavors pop on the front end. caramel, vanilla, hint of butterscotch. Lacks complexity -
Van Winkle Special Reserve Lot "B" 12 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 25, 2021 (edited January 1, 2022)Aroma - cocoa, baking spice … hint of cinnamon butterscotch Taste - butterscotch, vanilla, oak, hint of red hots… nice balance nothing really bold stand out. Overall - very good bourbon… just not worth the price of admission in my honest opinion -
Aroma - quite nice. Brown sugar, cinnamon, cloves, honey, mint. Taste- this one packs a ton of heat and the first sip puts hair on your chest. Massive oak, rye and vanilla right up front. Second sip and moving forward nuances of citrus, winter green. The viscosity is awesome… almost sticky. Long finish. Overall - this one is not for the weak… massively bold, not overly complex. Great rye offering… excellent at its price point. Bolder than Rare Breed Rye but not quite as much spice as Willet 4 Year

Reviewed December 20, 2021 (edited January 1, 2022)Aroma - notes of honey, pepper, vanilla… pretty nice at this price point Taste - dark fruits, caramel, vanilla… very slight hint of spice in the finish… wish the viscosity was a bit higher. Above average for the price point -
William Larue Weller Bourbon (Fall 2020)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 9, 2021 (edited January 1, 2022)Aroma is fantastic - alcohol soaked dark fruits, massive oak, banana bread, vanilla, cherries, chewy caramel candies…. just awesome. Taste - as expected…. Booze for days… First sip ignites the lips. There is an oak presence but quickly gives way to the alcohol. Some faint caramel but not much else happening here. 4.35 -

Reviewed November 26, 2021 (edited January 1, 2022)Aroma- cinnamon, cherries, jam, pie crust, vanilla, wet oak- it’s quite decadent. Taste- maple sugar, cherries, berries and jam again. A little more cinnamon here, leather is faint. Each sip brings forward a new aspect. Complexity is incredible. Happy thanksgiving! -
Woodford Reserve Straight Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 18, 2021 (edited August 22, 2022)Aroma - massive banana bread… sweet caramel, rye, hint of bubble gum… for $30-$35 this is quite nice. More than what I expected. Taste - More of the same aroma notes are found here on the palate. It’s a bit light though which is it’s downfall. Drinks right around its $30 price range so can’t complain. Overall the aroma > palate. Should make for an excellent OF or Manhattan -
