Aroma - mint, brown sugar, cinnamon, citrus… not a world beater but it’s solid and well balanced Taste - everything seems to be dialed back. The rye spice is really nice on the finish and lingers a little bit longer than most ryes at this price range. Overall - it’s pretty darn good for the price. Wish there was a bit more uniqueness in the flavor profile. Very nice entry level rye

Old Forester Birthday Bourbon 2021
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 21, 2021 (edited October 22, 2021)Aroma - black pepper, baking spices, massive oak, citrus, slight hint of honey and vanilla. The aroma is outstanding. Taste - not as bold as the nose would indicate. Much more salted caramel and vanilla. More cinnamon pops here. Oak is outstanding. But I’m a little shocked by how much alcohol pushes through. Overall this a terrific bourbon but I’m honestly a little underwhelmed by it. The alcohol presence eliminates some of the finer nuances of this bourbon. It drinks closer to upper 50s/low 60s. There is definitely a noticeable “hotness” even a slight burn on this one. -
Redwood Empire Lost Monarch Whiskey
Blended American Whiskey — USA
Reviewed October 20, 2021 (edited January 8, 2022)Aroma - first impression- “damn. This smells awesome”… for $30 I was not expecting a full array of aromas. Rye, clove, orange peel, cinnamon, brown sugar, vanilla, oak. Slight hint of black licorice. It’s probably one of the best smelling bourbons I’ve experienced at this price point. Taste - well not as complex as the nose but still very good. Very sweet.. brown sugar, butterscotch, vanilla… very slight hint of citrus. Not as much rye here as I thought there would be. I found the aroma to be more rye-like and the taste to provide more of a traditional bourbon flavor. Absolutely worth a try and you will not be disappointed with this offering. -
Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea Voyage 22 Special Wheated Mash Bill
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed October 19, 2021 (edited April 11, 2022)Kenwood Store pick Aroma- alcohol soaked cherries… burnt sugar, mild cinnamon spice. It’s not overly complex.. but it’s intriguing. Taste - pretty sweet…caramel bomb followed up by vanilla and oak. Long lasting finish makes this a great sipper. There is even a slight spice on the finish. -
Binnys store Pick 134.4 proof Aroma - alcohol soaked cherries, cinnamon and vanilla. Lacks complexity but nicely balanced. Taste- drinking neat… this is massive. Viscosity is off the charts.. almost sticky. Love it. Massive oak and alcohol dominate but there is just enough cherry, cinnamon and vanilla to create some balance. Added a couple drops of water… get a slight nuttiness and more vanilla and caramel shine though.

Slaughter House American Whiskey
Other Whiskey — (Bottled in California), USA
Reviewed October 4, 2021 (edited March 19, 2022)Aroma - apples and caramel dominate the nose. Oak and vanilla are secondary. Decently balanced and quite nice. taste- port, port and more port. Huge watered down effect in the middle then the heat arrives a minute later. Interesting… unique… not sure I’m a fan. Overall- Probably best consumed as a post dinner beverage. The port and bourbon seem to clash a little bit here though more than I would have liked. At 44% I’m surprised at just hot much heat remains on the lips. The port quality is a huge punch in the face but the heat ends up as the victor. Honestly… save your money. This would be fine to purchase if you had a big family get together where some members like wine/port/bourbon…. It’d be a nice offering in that setting. But if it’s just you… not worth it. There’s a time and a place for this. -
Evan Williams 1783 Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 23, 2021 (edited October 28, 2021)Aroma - sweet corn dominates the nose. Very faint oak and cinnamon Taste- smooth but as expected, lacks complexity and that’s fine for this price range. Decent flavor though. Touch of usual suspects… caramel, oak, vanilla. There’s a slight fruity tone to this to help bring some balance. Above average for price range. Great mixer.
