Clynelish 14 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed November 22, 2015 (edited April 12, 2018)I get light peatiness on the nose (like if someone was drinking a dram of Laphroaig at the table behind me and I caught a whiff) along with a sweet maltiness and some fruitiness. The entry to the palate is quite sweet and light with vanilla moving towards citrus. The finish is pretty long given the finesse palate and starts with slightly bitter citrus moving towards a lingering sweet briny peatiness. A little bit of everything in this one. -
Glenfarclas 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed November 22, 2015 (edited October 10, 2017)It was a bit one noted and harsh on the nose at first sniff with this really tart orchard fruit note but after a few minutes it really opened up into more of a honeyed sherried nose with a touch of lemon. Actually reminded me of those honey lemon Ricola cough drops I used to steal and eat like candy as a kid when my sister was sick lol... But in a good way minus the medicinal notes. The palate carries that sherried influence with dried fruits, raw honey and a maltiness giving way to some spice. I get a medium finish with spices and honey. -
For such a young whiskey this is an incredibly complex dram. The wine casks give it some notes that I'm used to smelling on a port finished single malt with some dried fruits and grapeyness but I also get some espresso and tobacco. I get some milk chocolate and fruitiness on the palate and some heat before a long chocolatey finish

Juicy, creamy, fruity nose. Makes me think of this cake they sell at the Whole Foods down here in Louisiana called Berry Chantilly Cake featuring layered cake with fresh berries and Chantilly cream between the layers. The palate is rich and creamy as well with vanilla and more of that fruitiness. The finish is long and lush with a drier vanilla creaminess.

George Dickel No. 12
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed November 22, 2015 (edited December 10, 2015)The sweet bread-y/doughy nose and palate always makes me think of biscuits and molasses with this one. There's some spice and oak there as well -
Stagg Jr Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch 1
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 22, 2015 (edited January 15, 2016)This one was all dark sugars and syrups on the nose with tons of oak and some spice. The palate reminded me of the syrup I make for pecan pie before I add the pecans with syrupy brown sugar, a touch of molasses, and spice. The finish is long with a bit of heat up front and oak and molasses through the end. -
I get strong Sherry notes on the nose with some maple syrup. It's difficult to get past the Sherry but with time I get the maple syrup again on the palate with vanilla and baking spices, leading towards a moderate peppery finish with baking spices and dried fruits. Pretty strong value for the price at $32 a bottle.
