High West A Midwinter Night's Dram
Rye — (bottled in) Utah, USA
Reviewed May 4, 2021 (edited October 3, 2022)Act 8 Scene 4 Nose: The wine spice has opened up with the Rye undertone. Pallet: Heavy on the dried fruit with a middle taste of wine and then back to the fruit. Finish: The wine spice has leveled off and now it’s a bit on the middle side now with a touch of wine tannins. Has gotten better as the bottle has had time to breath. Will get one for this falls release and 2 if I can. -
Nose: Light with a slight some medicine, may be a hint if clover in there. Pallet: Overall smooth with some bitter wild flower notes and overall light flavor. Finish: End quickly with with a lingering of cinnamon and tingle. This is a decent bottle, for a $40 single barrel it meets expectations on price but it won’t become something that I have to have in my collection. I tend to enjoy something more sweet but in some cases others may enjoying this if your pallet enjoys something more tart. 2nd and 3rd impressions are much more enjoyable than the first.40.0 USD per Bottle

Had a quick glass with my neighbor last night on the first 80 degree day. The first time I had this it was just okay and a bit let down. The glass last night was surprisingly pleasant and will have to do a full tasting in the future. Originally I would had said pass but now it’s much better after it had time to breathe.

Nose: a little unsettled and raw but not over powering. Pallet: Heavy spice on the tip but smooths out as it goes back with a nice flavor. Finish: Surprisingly calm with an after bite of heat. For the right price I would not turn down a bottle. Considering the 130 proof it’s very good if you like a high proof.t12.0 USD per PourPark Place Gastropub

Baker's Single Barrel Bourbon 7 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 24, 2021 (edited May 18, 2021)Nose: Nice amount of aroma with a sweet baking spice notes. No complaints on the nose. Pallet: Hot of the front and mid, good flavor but drinks like a full 107 proof. Finish: The spice carries all the way through and some would consider a little over powering so but I didn’t mid it as a siper. Tried Stagg Jr first so that may have changed my thoughts. Would like to see it a little smoother but being available on demand for $60, when the time comes I’ll hit a bottle. Need to try against the 1792 full proof.7.0 USD per PourPark Place Gastropub -
Willett Family Estate Small Batch Rye 4 Year

Reviewed April 21, 2021 (edited March 30, 2022)I wanted to like this, after having the pot still version this diffidently came in second place. Flavor of grass came on a little two strong. Will have this again and do a proper tasting.60.0 USD per Bottle -
Willett Pot Still Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 21, 2021 (edited July 21, 2021)Opened this bottle when family was in town and I need to sit down and do a proper tasting. I’ve only had this and the 4yr rye, my feeling is Willett has a unique flavor profile that may be suited to the old crowd (as my 70yr father said this was the best he has ever tasted and he knows what he likes). For me the nose was pleasant, smooth and flavorful but the flavor profile was a little more earthy than I would like. Will I get another bottle, yes, 1/3 because my dad likes it, 1/3 because of the bottle and 1/3 because I think you need to find some time with it.65.0 USD per Bottle -

Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Batch Proof 128.3
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 11, 2021 (edited August 15, 2021)Nose: Good nose with some floral notes. Pallet: Mix of sweet notes with a good mouth feel and vaococity. The flavor and heat does linger. Finish: The flavor continues and ends with a spicy heat. Woodford comes on super strong and then let’s up at the last second to make it really enjoyable. Almost to much flavor. Bottle need a little time to breathe in my opinion so I’m looking forward to the second pour in a couple weeks.160.0 USD per BottleTJ's Market -
1792 Full Proof Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 10, 2021 (edited October 19, 2021)Nose: The nose seamed a little uneasy for what I would expect for a high proof pour and light. Hint of nuts. Pallet: Well rounded but not as complex as say the WF batch proof but close to a 1/3 of the cost and much more available. Hints of caramel that ends in a nice spice. Finish: There’s a diffident heat but not a high proof sting that lesser bourbons would offer. Overall the 1792 is a little unrefined compared to other, however for the price and it’s availability it’s surprisingly well balanced. I can see why some of my serious bourbon friends always have this available and it comes highly recommended. Bottle need a little time to breathe in my opinion so I’m looking forward to the second pour in a few weeks.50.0 USD per Bottle
