Hennessy VS Limited Edition Bottle by JonOne
Cognac — Cognac, France
Reviewed September 26, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)Hennessy VS Nose: purple/grape, prunes, dried red fruit, sweet Taste: sweet, wood, spice, fruit: apricot I think, maybe some grape too, vanilla, a little burn on the finish. With time you get red gummi bears on the nose as well. The finish cools down and there are some roasted nuts on the end Not bad at all for a VS. -
Aberlour A'bunadh
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 23, 2017 (edited September 24, 2017)Had this at a restaurant. Tough to get a good nose with a tumbler. Dried fruit and wood on the nose. Taste without water was tons of wood and spice, heat, fruit. Adding water brought the fruitiness up a lot, still a lot of wood and spice though. It was good, but I'm not as in to Sherry bombs as some. 3/5 -
Johnnie Walker Double Black
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed September 16, 2017 (edited January 22, 2020)I dig JW Double Black. It's got a lot of the Talisker elements of black: salty, mineral, a little spice and vanilla, but with more smoke and peat. If I've been drinking Speysides or Highlands I notice the smoke, Peat, and leather hints a lot more. If I've been having a lot of Islays that week, I don't pick up nearly as smoke and get more of the Talisker and some sweetness. Also pretty good if you want to put a little twist or luxury on a spirit forward cocktail. -
Nose: dried fruit, raisins, dried cherries, fruity sweet, wood. Taste: spicy, wood, sweet, but also dry, dry spicy finish. Smooth! Spice dies down and sweetness increases with a little time to open up. My first foray into cognac. I bought this to make sidecars, but I could see dabbling in cognac here and there. Reminds me a lot of Highland Park 12 year or Bunnahabhain in some ways. Similar to that sherries oaky spicy sweetness. I dig it. On the 2nd taste I get an amaretto sweetness, almost cherry cola flavors. Delicious!

Oban Distillers Edition
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 3, 2017 (edited October 22, 2017)Nose is honey and roasted nuts. Taste is similar but with sweetness and a little dried fruit. I like it, but I think regular Oban 14 is better
