Blanton's Original Single Barrel
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 6, 2020 (edited September 7, 2020)Decent. Just better BT. Worth it for the bottle and story alone so I wouldn’t say overpriced. -
Old Forester Classic 86 Proof
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 20, 2020 (edited August 29, 2020)Decent cheap whisky. Fruity and that’s about it. Weirdly goes well with a Comacho Bourbon Barrel Aged. Makes it taste like blackberry pie. For that reason I keep it around, but unless it’s on sale I’ve had better for cheaper -
Rebel Yell Kentucky Straight Bourbon (Discontinued)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 26, 2020 (edited April 16, 2021)Light but not quite empty, grassiness and grains dance on the tongue and some fruits will sneak in. Lacks oak or barrel on the taste, but for a budget pour it’s better than some “cheap” bourbon 5-10 bucks more. Decent sipper I will keep on the shelf -
Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 15, 2020 (edited July 20, 2020)Delicate almost floral nose. Strawberries cream candies and a hint of alcohol. Taste is heavy peanuts, little bit of oak, and some light spices. Finish is very short. Underwhelming to be sure but has great promise, would love an older expression -
Popped my peat cherry with this little guy right here. First sniff is the smell of a burning bog. Fire, smoke, swamp (peat), and the sea sprinkled in. On first sip: poison. Tastes like there should be a Mr. Yuck sticker on it and placed in your cleaning supplies storing area. But after a few sips to coat your tongue. The initial shock of drinking medicine reveals Smokey, peaty goodness, with a bitter seaweed twinge. Can’t wait to keep drinking this and see how it evolves. Quite the dram

McLaughlin Distillery 3799 Bourbon Whiskey
Bourbon — Pennsylvania , USA
Reviewed March 29, 2020 (edited July 2, 2023)Smells like a workshop in all the best ways. Hand cut wood, sweet corn, hints of a campfire. Tastes like mesquite BBQ sauce, oaky goodness, and creamed corn. A lovely bourbon from a little Pittsburgh distillery. Got to meet the owner and take a tour it was a blast!
