Sweet smokey budget Islay blend. Maybe bit bit of Laphroaig, with its rubber, medicinal Aroma. Palate is sweet and peaty, but no young malt sourness like Wee Beastie. If you have cut back on your Islay rations as they now all mostly start at $60 for even the cheap stuff, then this is a pleasant but unremarkable blend it worth a try if you live near a Total Wine store. FYI, they sell it in 50ml bottles for $4 if you want to try it first.

Overall, if you're a fan Speysides give this a try. Nice price, no sourness that I get from some young malts. Not very complex, just easy sipping honey. I prefer Peated whiskies, but I enjoyed this and will buy it again or try other Stranahan version. Nose: young malt whiskey, vanilla, honey Palate: sweet, honey, malt whiskey. Dettling Single Barrel Cask Strength Bourbon (Under 2 Years)
Bourbon — Alabama, USA
Reviewed May 19, 2022 (edited January 31, 2024)My favorite Alabama whiskey. Getting hard to find and a bit pricey. Rich, thick, oily. Caramel sweet, with a vegetal note that I usually only get with Texas whiskey. Finish has some young corn note. Since this is a single barrel, some variation in batches. Some bottles I've had tasted a bit young. Happy to serve this as a fine example of Alabama whiskey. I try to keep a bottle on hand to serve to guest a taste of Alabama.
