Woodford Reserve Straight Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 4, 2017 (edited November 25, 2017)Smells like bananas foster. Slight astringent wood, sweetness, vanilla, char, dark chocolate, very smooth and pleasant, with a nice warmth going down that lingers. Looking for a rye daily sipper? This could be it. 11/4/17 -
Basil Hayden Dark Rye
Other Whiskey — Multiple Countries
Reviewed October 27, 2017 (edited November 12, 2017)Light and sweet, maybe too much so. But there's a nutty finish to this that is nice. Simplistic but let's not be snobby about it, this is decent. 10/27/17 -
Teeling Single Malt Irish Whiskey
Single Malt — Ireland
Reviewed October 27, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)Classic Irish nose. Malt notes are mild, some soap notes. Some creamy notes. Not sure I'm discerning much of the wine notes. Some pleasant bitterness at the end. Nice. 10/27/17 -
Jefferson's Reserve Pritchard Hill Cabernet Cask Finish
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 27, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)TWCP store pick. Different (and better) than the standard bottle I've had. This is earthy, almost creamy. Some dirt notes, I mean that in a good way. Some slight berry hints as well. 10/27/17 -
Little Book Chapter 1: The Easy
Blended American Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 25, 2017 (edited September 17, 2021)Release 001. Salted butter on the nose. The proof is evident on the nose. Hot on the tongue, through the finish. Sweet, wood, astringent cherry, if that makes sense. Cough drops. Nutty on the backend... walnuts, a hint of peanuts, and bitter pecan shells. Cherry and nuts, a familiar Beam profile. 10/26/17 Still get salted butter on the nose. Some vanilla, yeasty bread, and sour fruit. Lots of alcohol heat, singed my nose hairs. Hot on the tongue, I'm getting bitter cherry and fake sugar, like a cough drop. Lots of pepper and spice, and bitter pecan shells. Warmth lingers in the chest. There's an odd flavor here that I can't place. The bitterness lingers. 9/14/18 -
Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof Tennessee Whiskey
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed October 25, 2017 (edited November 10, 2017)Rick no. L-18, Barrel no. 16-6021, bottled on 9/19/16, 64.3% ABV. Described on the box as aromatic, that's right on. Floral nose, but more complex than just that. Lots of vanilla, and alcohol sting (not surprising given the proof). On the palate, wood, spice, leather, turpentine, flowers, burnt sugar. Heat, yes, but still smooth relative to the proof, a Jack Daniel's characteristic. Layered, for you snobs you should give this a try. 10/25/17 With some limestone water ice cubes, this gets sweeter. Not cloying, but it does highlight the brown sugar, and some additional nutty notes. 10/28/17
