Nose is pungent sweet. A touch of smoke but the rich and sweet cereal notes dominate. Palate continues sweet but the smoke and earth come out midway and it continues to develop into heavier smoke at the end. It's a pretty enjoyable journey. The finish is long and smoky with sweet cereal back again. Great to try beside the sherry finish of the same age and compare. Water turns this into malt chocolate candy. Sweet smoky and delicious.

Bernheim 7 Year Original Wheat Whiskey
Wheat Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 24, 2021 (edited April 11, 2021)Nose is sweet and soft like most wheated. But I also get some eucalyptus and spice of rye. Palate is sweet and soft. I would guess a low ABV (tasting in a restaurant and didn't look). Cereal and cocoa with medicinal notes. Not complex but good. The finish is tea and dry but pleasant and moderate length. -
Port Charlotte 10 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 15, 2021 (edited February 21, 2021)Nose is malty cereal, salt, ash, chocolate almond. Sometimes it comes across savory and great and other nights it's flat and sour, no idea why. On the palate it's sweet, savory, salty, and even a little sour. Malt and cereal notes throughout just like Bruichladdich. The peat shines through as salty and savory smoke and lasts into the finish that is long and savory smoke. Water improves it significantly. The nose turns much more briny and the palate has a ton more salty sweet notes. It also makes the finish more interesting. A great Islay for the price and it's fun to explore. I've noticed that on nights that I use this as a follow-up to other peaty Whisky it's got a ton more to find.50.0 USD per Bottle -
Bunnahabhain 12 Year

Reviewed February 15, 2021 (edited March 13, 2021)Nose is sweet and malty. Dried fruit, tropical trail mix, some sherry raisin notes, floral. Palate is still sweet but with good development. Starts out like a dry sherry, raisins and other dried fruit, some salt and toffee notes develop. oak at the end. The finish is sweet but dry and oaky and lasts a good amount of time. Excellent whisky.71.0 USD per Bottle -
Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed February 13, 2021 (edited March 14, 2021)Nose is all banana and molasses. Floral sweet and pretty. The palate is banana nut bread and spices. It's a bit hot for 47%. The finish is more banana and short.40.0 USD per Bottle -
Nose is ashy and malty. Sweet chocolate, espresso beans, and earth. There is a mineral note I get from every Ardbeg too. Palate is pretty great but different for Ardbeg. Malt and ashy peat that develops into minerals and earth. That then develops into smokey cocoa and more espresso that finishes long and rich. I like it but can see how it can be polarizing. There is so much chocolate that is a great dessert dram.46.0 USD per Bottle

Westland Peated American Single Malt
American Single Malt — Washington, USA
Reviewed January 20, 2021 (edited May 26, 2022)Nose has the same dark fruit and chocolate note I always get from Westland. It's round, rich, and sweet. I only get a tiny hint of smoke at first but after it sitting for a minute it opens up. Savory smoke with the sweet richness. Roasted marshmallow is the overwhelming note on the palate. The kind you let catch on fire and then blow out. Under that some wood comes out but it stays in the background of the burnt marshmallow into a short finish. It disappears quickly but leaves a burnt and woody aftertaste that lingers long after the initial finish. On further visits I did get more savory smoked meat notes but the sweet burnt marshmallow always comes dominant with dark coffee notes on the finish. Water increased all these by amping up the smoke. -
Lagavulin Offerman Edition 11 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed January 15, 2021 (edited January 24, 2021)Nose is an ashier version of the 16yo savory smoke. A little bit more fruity sweetness underneath though. It tastes a lot like every other magnificent Lagavulin but the extra dry ash persists through out the palate for me. I'm honestly more used to peat than the last time I tasted the 16 though, so I'll need to revisit it. I wouldn't mistake this for what it is though with that great savory and meaty smoke. The finish is ash and some peat along with the savory notes and lasts a moderate to short time. Worth picking up if you are an Offerman fan (I am), but for the same price the 16 is a better dram (from memory).108.0 USD per Bottle
