Don Q Signature Release Single Barrel 2007
Aged Rum — Puerto Rico
Reviewed August 7, 2018 (edited July 16, 2021)I’ve been sitting in this bottle since the week of Christmas and am just cracking it open in August. I should have sooner! Nose of smoked oak, very light esters. More oak, brown sugar and toffee. Bit of spice comes through with a hint of apple. Extremely light body for a rum of this age. Finish is extremely smooth and almost cooling. Little fruit and nuts and more of the smokey oak tannins coming through. My first tasting of a Don Q rum and surely not my last. Grab a bottle while you can. This is with a doubt one of my new favorites. This is a fantastic spirit for rum or bourbon lovers.42.0 USD per Bottle -
Four Roses Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 3, 2018 (edited October 17, 2018)Throughout this nice offering from Four Roses, the Small Batch is a wonderful blend of floral and fruity. On the nose it has a bit of alcohol esters and a cassis. The taste is all rose petals, vanilla and fruit. Not the typical vanilla, caramel flavoring of a well made bourbon. It has a lingering floral taste that dominates the finish. Little burn with a drying sensation. This is a great bourbon for hot days of summer when you are not looking for that deep, rich burn and fulfilling spirit. Overall, not bad and a great value. I’d truthfully rate it closer to 3.5.30.0 USD per Bottle -
One of the best platinum runs that I have found, thus far from a life long rum drinker. Silvers aren't meant to be sipped, they're for mixing. This one may be sipped as it has a nice bit of flavor and a tad bit of burn. Great for your homemade mojitos or daiquiris. The price, typically sub $12 can't be beat by anything that's worth drinking.

Blanton's Original Single Barrel
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 28, 2017 (edited April 29, 2017)Neat: Nose has familiar notes if vanilla, caramel and bit of alcohol. Palate is medium sweet to spicy as the vanilla turns to tongue tingling spice. The finish is medium length and and semi dry. I fully admit that I typically enjoy my bourbon with a cube of ice, but not this one. This one was enjoyed neat and it was as smooth as the proverbial baby's @$$! After having several other nice bourbons, this one is in my top 5. Should have been a 4.5. Sip it neat and enjoy! -
Had a double pour at a local restaurant/ bar with friends over dinner last week. I have wanted to try this but didn't want to drop the coin on a bottle. Prices in the area have soared to over $80-$90. Started neat and added a couple of cubes of ice. Flavor was good, picked up some of the baking spice and vanilla and definitely the heat while drinking neat. It hit home like any good cask strength bourbon will. It left me wanting though.... One of my usual higher proof pours is Knob Creek Single Barrel. To me this was so similar it's not worth the jump of double in cost. I really wanted to like this more than what I did. Though enjoyable, I doubt I buy a bottle unless I find a steal of a deal. Owning both a standard bottle and a hand selected bottle of KC Single Barrel I'll get by with those as the profiles are very similar. In truth, this is maybe 3.75-4 when considering the price.

A nice addition to the Beam family of small batch offerings. Lighter, citrus, a tad of vanilla and a good amount of spiciness due to the rye content. Makes your tongue go numb for a moment when sipping neat. Reminds me of a more refined Bulliet. Overall, a nice package and bourbon a bit different than Knob Creek, Baker's or Booker's.

Knob Creek Small Batch Bourbon (NAS)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 15, 2016 (edited November 20, 2016)Barrel #3417 Nose has a very pleasant brown sugar, baking spices and vanilla. Not many esters burning the nose as the KC Small Batch. On palette it has a great flavor of vanilla, maple and spices. The Single Barrel has a big bold taste that isn't over shadowed by wood. The finish is nice, not overpowering. Medium-long and pleasant. A nice warmth spreading and not the liquid fire of the Small Batch. The Single Barrel has a better flavor and finish versus the Small Batch for just a few dollars more. Do yourself a favor, skip the Small Batch and go straight to the Single Barrel. It beats it hands down! Makes me want to grab a bottle of Bookers. -
I had to search for this in my area and finally was "lucky" enough to find a bottle. I'm glad I was able! The nose opens up with a very aggressive agave forward presence, along with with citrus and a bit of herbals. I do note a whiff of alcohol aroma, but you must breath very deep and it dissipates after a moment. On the palate you get more of the herbal, citrus and cooked agave favors and a bit of cinnamon. The finish has more of the herbal, grassy almost after taste. The burn is short to non existent and is a pleasure to sip. That's not something I say about many tequilas. My wife, a diehard Patron drinker, really enjoyed this tequila tonight. Whether as a sipper or in a margarita. Fairly complex as a blanco goes, smooth, tahona processed and for around $35/ bottle; what's not to like?!?
