A very rough scotch. Spey river has never been a brand I’ve particularly enjoyed. this particular finish has the standard vanilla and malt, along with mild caramel but then is flooded by a sickly sherry. The only solid thing I have to say is the finish is smooth, but as far as flavor there’s not much going on. Out of all the Spey rivers I think this is the most drinkable. i think it’s a decent struggle whisky, but personally I wouldn’t ever buy a bottle

Kilchoman Spec's pick small batch No.1
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed April 4, 2023 (edited June 23, 2023)“70% bourbon barrel, 25% Calvados cask, 5% sherry cask” Lots of apple and pear notes in the beginning along with some wood spice, hay and iodine. Later notes have more malt and are char and oaky vanilla from the bourbon cask. the sherry is somewhat negligible and I barely detect it through the bourbon and Calvados. finish has notes of salted cashew, satisfying maritime peat smoke that blends well with a dryer, tannic finish. really cool dram Kilchoman has here. Would be interested to try some more Calvados forward single malts.55.0 USD per BottleSpec's Wines, Spirits & Finer Foods -
Bear Fight American Single Malt
American Single Malt — USA
Reviewed April 3, 2023 (edited July 9, 2023)There’s hay, slight cinnamon/wood spice and apple skin in the beginning, followed by notes of sherry, slight honey and noticeable nuttiness. a tad bit of the sherry sweetness appears near the end but ends with a mild peaty dryness. The finish duration is short to medium. This is a decent single malt. It’s a mild dram and nothing too crazy. It’s like a more complex version of monkey shoulder in some ways.38.0 USD per Bottle -
Delord Armagnac XO
Armagnac — Bas-Armagnac , France
Reviewed March 28, 2023 (edited December 31, 2023)Heavy raisin, toasted almond, apricot and orange rind. There’s smaller red berry notes. There is a noticeable spice level to this but otherwise is relatively smooth to drink neat. the finish is medium to long with a lot of spice and dryness despite its relative sweetness in the beginning with the fruit. I enjoyed this a lot!48.0 USD per Bottle -
