Glenlivet Founder's Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed October 18, 2017 (edited August 18, 2019)This bottle is wholly uninspiring and lacking in character, I can't help but to think that it was thrown together by a bunch of dullards in a board room to quickly get a cost-effective product on the shelf. Is it fruity? Sure, in the same way those off-brand dollar store candies that seemed to be ever prevalent at your grandmother's house were. Is it floral? Yeah, similar to the shrubby vegetation that grows next to the highway. Is it creamy? Okay, a bit, akin to "coffee whitener," which conceptually, weirds me out and is filed under Things That Should Not Be. However, is it boozy? You betcha baby, and you won't feel remiss in the slightest for drinking it out of a red Solo cup at a party you've somehow found yourself where the house rules appear to be simple words and not returning my lighter. The main strengths lie in its easy drinking nature, as well as being inexpensive for a scotch, but unless you're hung up about specifically having a single malt, there's simply way better (and cheaper) bottles of whisk(e)y out there. -
The thing I hate the most about NAS bottles is when you're trying not to like them on principle, but they keep on being so fucking good. This ended up being the standout at a tasting I went to. Creaminess that's reminiscent of Glenfarclas 12, but more on the side of lemon meringue rather than custard. The finish is a lingering smooth agrume with a hint of spice that delights, and begs for more. Bit on the expensive side, but cheap compared to, say, a cocaine habit, so stop judging me, Dad.

Tequila 1921 Añejo
Tequila Añejo — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed April 19, 2016 (edited June 28, 2022)A very light coloured, light tasting añejo. Nose is a pleasant, softened agave. Taste is smooth and easy, with a slight oaky taste. Inoffensive, but doesn't leave a lot to think about, which is fine, because I'm pairing it with downloading FFXIV from the client at about 4 KB/s. I suppose it evens out my masochistic streak. Great introduction for those who are new or unsure about sipping tequila. As an aside, it comes in a handsome, old school, thick glass bottle with a wax seal. Unf unf unf.
