On my price point vs. complexity scale this comes in a disappointment. In my humble opinion it comes in at a $27/750ml bourbon and not its current price point of ~$55/750ml. It presented itself with a really flat complexity with no noticeable flavor notes that gives you any "wow." What a bummer as I expected more from this bourbon. On the plus side, nice packaging.

Not a bad "middle of the road" bourbons. It is sweet as indicated. I mixed it with diet ginger ale in a highball and it worked perfectly fine by me. If you like sweetness, they drink it straight, which is not my preference, however, to each one their own. Found it at Costco at $39.99/1.75l so I could not complain about the price. So it works within my price-to-complexity ratio :-)

Isaac Bowman Straight Bourbon Finished in Port Barrels
Bourbon — Virginia, USA
Reviewed April 24, 2018 (edited November 4, 2018)Picked-up a bottle of this from the distillery in Fredericksburg, VA the other day and poured a couple of knuckles of it over a bourbon ice ball. You can smell the port and it is not overpowering at all. At first sip I was really taken back by it's smooth profile. This is a fine sipping bourbon! I have yet to try it neat. At $39.99/750ml it is worth the investment. They did a really good job with this as it finishes up really nice too. I agree with Jalau, that I prefer this over Angel's Envy, another fine bourbon. -
Early Times Kentucky Whisky
Blended American Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 11, 2018 (edited December 4, 2018)Not sure why they use this in their "run of the mill" Mint Julips at Churchill Downs unless they buy it by the tanker load (i.e. VOLUME & CHEAP). Woodford Reserve is the better choice for the "high end" Mint Julip. However, it will get you to where you are wanting to go, only in a Yugo and not a Cadillac. -
I did not like this bourbon when I first tried it "many" years ago. However, I rediscovered it recently. I now appreciate this as I now get a bourbon's complexities (i.e. going from college slam dancing whiskey to actually tasting and enjoying it). I had a similar experience with scotch in college when we did shots of King George IV with Rolling Rock Pony Bottle chasers. I did not drink scotch again for 25 years after that dumpster fire of a train wreak! This will be the first "back-up" bourbon into my "Zombie Apocalypse" Closet if one of the other bottles in it break or gets finished off early. ;-)
