Angel's Envy Rye Finished in Caribbean Rum Casks

Quite simply...this smells like aged rum with a little bit of rye on the end. Molasses, maple syrup, caramelized banana, butterscotch, and a little pine and dill. Although the rum finish has taken hold, it smells delicious. I am definitely a fan of aged rum and this is oozing with the scents of rum. Perhaps a bit too much. We'll see Molasses, overripe banana, and dry oak open up and are quite prevalent throughout the whole palate. More pine and black pepper. It is prickly on the tongue. A little bit of cinnamon and nutmeg take a look around but don't stay for long. Nice viscosity and mouthfeel but it doesn't feel as significant on the palate as I expected. Probably because I am expecting to sip on rum because my mind has tricked me into thinking that's what this is because I associate the smell to rum. I'm not sure if I like this honestly. It tastes more like a harsh rum than a sweet finished rye. Very little of the actual rye whiskey remains. I do enjoy it in a way, but I'm not sure how often I am going to want something like this. I see why this is polarizing.

CAN I GIVE THIS MORE THAN 5 STARS?! Let sit for about 5 minutes. 👀: Light copper ocher with light bubbles on the sides, walls are thick and solid that do not coalesce into legs; 👃: At first scent, you get hit with a lot of the typical spearmint and dill that accompany typical rye, definitely can smell some sweet maple syrup in there (very viscous at that), a little freshly cracked pepper, baking spices; 👅: Very oily, thick and creamy, do I taste BANANAS FOSTER and maybe a little marzipan?!, loads of maple syrup down the gullet, can taste the Caribbean rum most definitely, nothing but sweetness; 🏁: Extremely long tasty finish but once it's gone it's astringent, this has got one of the most beautiful finishes I've ever had!!!

Smelled and tasted amazing. Burnt carmel and butterscotch, sweet, minimal ethanol.
