Finally finished my standard ardbeg bottle collection with this one. starts off with a saline presence, some dark fruit drizzled in mollases, chocolate and dark coffee grinds, then picking up on the bourbon char, oak, salted meat and a minerality similar to some mezcals. The finish is medium to long, bringing back the minerality, char and peat. A fantastic bottle from ardbeg and i can see why its so highly rated. Its not a sherry bomb but it has the perfect amount of sherry to interact accordingly with the peatiness.
Really, almost shockingly complex. There’s plenty of peat smoke, but it yields well to the sherry and other characteristics. It’s smoky, sweet, savory and fruity. On the nose smoked meat and wood and peat, candied nuts and fruits, toffee, leather, vanilla, salted caramel, petrichor and dark chocolate. On the palate peat and wood smoke, vanilla, petrichor, molasses, barrel spice, smoked meat and honey.
