Foursquare Mark XIII 2008 Exceptional Cask Selection Single Blended Rum is a bold, Cask Strength, Blended Rum by Foursquare Distillery in Four Roads, Saint Philip, Barbados consisting of rums from both the Artisanal Double-Retort Pot & Traditional Twin Column Coffey Still. All aged 12 years in 1st, 2nd & 3rd fill Ex-Bourbon barrels. Maturation occurring in open walled warehouses in Barbados, taking the full impact of the unique tropical climate; bottled at 60% ABV. It has an aromatic birth with notes of vanilla, oak spice, marzipan & tobacco leaves; while a bold & spicy life adds notes of rich wood, leather, tobacco, papaya, apricot, banana & a hint of chocolate; that led to a long & warming death with hints of pepper & toasted oak. Molasses, bourbon, sherry, vanilla, banana, pineapple

Aroma: ripened bananas, berry compote, vanilla and oak. Fantastic and robust nose! Flavor: There is a fair amount of bourbon influence at first but as it opens up a wave of tropical and stone fruit comes through then finishes with sweet oak, vanilla and a hint of baking spice. Excellent flavor, and has a decent finish (medium + length). One of my favorite rums of all time

Nose is toasted cream, fresh pineapple, strawberry jam, and cinnamon sugar. The taste blends all the notes together with the consistency of sweet kolache filling. Throw in a little oil for a long finish, and it really is a dessert.

Let me start off by saying I drink whiskey 99% of the time. Poured a sample I had of the 2008 Foursquare last night and glad I did!! Foursquare is the perfect crossover from whiskey to rum, that any barrel aged fan cannot help but to enjoy This rum hits all the high points a whiskey drinker looks for - even though the distillate is different than Bourbon per say (Minimum 51% Corn, along with other grains) Rum being molasses then aging in Ex Bourbon barrels derives a phenomenal well rounded spirit from nose to pallet to finish = Truly enjoyable and directly comparable to Bourbon.
