Had this pour after a taste of Pikesville Rye. High West Double Rye is noticeably lighter. Comparatively, this is delicate. Today, I prefer the High West.
Almost through the bottle. This has been a terrific rye with a lot of mint and pepper spice. More buttery than expected and seems to tame as we let the whiskey sit in the bottle after opening.
I’m having a hard time with this one. It’s a lot lighter than other offerings from High West, with not nearly as powerful flavors. I’m not tasting the floral notes others speak of, but the spice and leather flavors are more identifiable.
Overall not my favorite, but worth the price. Straight rye whiskey drinkers will probably enjoy this more.
