Old Forester 100 Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 17, 2023 (edited June 30, 2024)Wow. This is a delicious bourbon for the price. I was not expecting a lot given the entry level Old Forrester, but this was a welcome surprise. The vanilla and banana notes are prominent, but not overwhelming, and the spiciness is amazing. This will be a regular adddition to my cabinet. -
This is definitely a sweet bourbon, which would normally be something I’d give a great score to. However, every sip I take immediately makes me think I’m drinking a standard pour of Jack Daniels, and that is not meant as a compliment. Not a great flavor, and although I am glad I tried it, I will not be adding another bottle.39.95 USD per BottleDABC Utah State Liquor Store #08 Bountiful

1792 Full Proof Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 12, 2023 (edited May 18, 2023)Wow! This has cinammon and clove immediately on first taste. I could taste something else after the first few sips, but struggled to identify what it was. Maybe leather? A few drops of water and it’s completely changed. The cinammon, cloves, and spice are all still there, but vanilla on the end is far more prominent. Very complex drink and VERY good. -
Maker's Mark Cask Strength
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 21, 2023 (edited February 23, 2023)Very, very good. A hint of peat, followed by leather and loads of vanilla, make this high proof drink very smooth. The spiciness comes towwrds the end of the drink and remind you its a cask strength whisky. Ill be adding this regulaly when i see it at my local store.59.95 USD per Bottle -
High West Rendezvous Rye (2022 Release)
Rye — Utah, USA
Reviewed February 8, 2023 (edited March 2, 2023)Rendezvous Rye has been a favorite of mine from High West for many years, so I was excited to try the 2023 release. It has a much less spicy and cinnamon flavor on the front end than previous releases, but not necessarily a bad thing. Very smooth. The tobacco, vanilla, and citrus notes are easily recognized with a slow sip and soak. Bottom line, this isn’t my favorite release of Rendezvous. That being said, I’ll definitely be picking up another bottle or two when the opportunity presents itself to share with close friends.78.0 USD per BottleDABC Utah State Liquor Store #08 Bountiful -
I was excited to try this offering from Knob Creek, and while it is good, I was a bit underwhelmed. There is an early spiciness that is welcome, particularly for a 100 proof, but prominent flavors after that are absent. The closest thing I could identify is a smooth leather profile, while not unpleasant, is less flavorful and enjoyable as other bourbons in this price point. For a few dollars more, the Elijah Craig Small Batch is a better choice in my opinion.38.99 USD per BottleDABC Utah State Liquor Store #08 Bountiful
