Aroma naturally of cherries, with apple pie, cinnamon, green grass, woody and bitter herbal notes, almonds and flowers. Sweet, bitter, herbal, perfume-like, slightly spicy, and oily. Very rich and thick. @twostal
Does not taste like maraschino cherries, or much like cherry fruit at all.
Tastes more like cherry pit, almond, and herbs. It is bitter, while at the same time syrupy sweet.
It overpowers any cocktail I put it in. I kept reducing the amount, ½, ¼, ⅛ of what was called for in any recipe... but it is still there, and I don't want to taste this stuff anymore!
First: This is not the flavor of the fakety fake fake maraschino cherries!!! Those absurd red cherrylike garnishes stole the name from the original preserved marasca cherries from (Croatia) Italy. Ok, The flavors are sweet, grape, anise, herbal, but I'd be hard pressed to find cherry in there. It is delicious straight and indispensable as a component in certain mixed drinks. Look up the history - very cool.
