Mount Gay Black Barrel

Light nose with some vanilla varnish, palate rather thin and spicy. The finish is harsh, not remotely sweet but okay long. 21-21-22-21-85

Nose is not particularly strong but I can taste sweet corn and some char at the end. It’s only OK for sipping neat but I purchased it mainly for my egg nog this holiday season, and it is serving me well there!

92 points. Beautiful orange peel and coriander tones. Nice rum, enjoyed in Barbados.

An intense, Dark Rum by Master Distiller Allen Smith for Mount Gay Distilleries Ltd in Barbados; getting its name from the deeply charred finishing casks. It’s a cross section of Mount Gay Rums aged between 3 & 7 years with more than 1/2 of the Spirit dripping off double pot stills & the rest coming from the column stills. All of the Rum was aged in American Whiskey barrels. After marrying, the Rum was finished in ex-Bourbon casks & bottled at 43% ABV. It has an aromatic birth with notes of Rum-raisin cream, vanilla toffee, allspice & a hint of brown butter; while a bold life adds notes of gingerbread, toffee, cinnamon & cracked pepper; that leads to a long rich & spicy death. Age 3 to 7 years in American whiskey, and finished for seven months in deep charred Bourbon. Amber with caramel and space, smooth toffee.
