OHLQ has a 3-sample Redbreast set for $14.99 including this, the 12 Year, and the 15 Year. For a tasting set that's a pretty great value considering the price of these bottles. The Lustau is a step up from the 12Y in every way, and it's typically less than $10 more. In fact, it's only $3 more right now at the main store I shop at. If you don't see a big price gap, buy this.
I found this to be extremely pleasant to sip on. I sampled it neat and it wasn’t to strong on the initial bite. Also my palate isn’t complex as I have only been trying whiskeys for just a year now but it had the following notes.
Baking Spices like Cinnamon and Allspice.
A sweetness i could describe as redvind licorice with a slightly apple to it.
And it finished with this soft wine taste.
All in all i like it more than Redbreast 12 and i definitely will pick up another bottle down the road.
Nose: Sticky ginger cake very prominent with some orange oil and sultanas.
Palate: Slightly oily mouthfeel. Initially some sherry fruit and apple sweetness with a milk chocolate following.
Finish: Hefty spice and oak with crisp red apple with a lovely lasting golden syrup.
