If you're wearing a hat - hold on to it!
these days, most whiskey finishes sit for 3-months..
Redbreast Lustau, after maturing in bourbon and sherry casks for 9 to 12 years - is finished for (grab that hat!) an entire 12-months in first-filled sherry butts seasoned with the finest Oloroso sherry....
that's NINE MONTHS longer than every other distiller!
the result?
Paradise in a pour....
PS: funny thing is, I don't like sweet whiskeys.... but this is something special.
Love the slight red color. Nose has sweet dried fruit, some honey, butter, and oak. First sip is sweet. Like face puckering sweet. I get cherries and honey. Each progressive sip is less sweet, but I may be used to it. This is not my favorite dram. I much prefer the 12. The finishing in sherry casks has sweetened this to the point of apple juice. It’s almost like a brandy. Next.
Nose - dried dark fruit, black pepper, almonds, brown sugar, cloves and cinnamon, a bit of lemon zest
Palette - oily and rich, clings to your tongue, dark fruits and spice, some sweetness but more richness and spice forward, slight barrel tannins
Finish - spicy rich and long, medium burn,
