Sazerac Rye

This is a good one especially for the cost. Candy corn and vanilla on the nose and just smooth and yummy. Have the same taste except when I add a touch of ice. For some reason this brings out a hint of pickle on the finish?? When I can find this is one I always have on hand. Like all the good/fairly priced whiskeys now days this one can hard to find.

Look: Sazerac is burnt orange, crystal clear, and a really nice looking whiskey Nose: Anise, slight dill, cinnamon, plenty of spices. I’m also getting some vanilla and brown sugar. Really, a nice smelling rye, if not slightly more bourbon like. Swirling opens up some more spices, and a sweet clove I’d think from the rye. Taste: initially, I’m hit with some sweetness, followed up by pepper, cinnamon, and a nice mix of sweet, and spice. Finish: The sweetness is the last flavor I really get, kind of a clove and banana flavor. The finish itself is pretty short, with most flavor gone within thirty seconds. Not hot or bitter really. Overall: I like Sazerac, though I’m not sure it’s my favorite rye. The sweetness and general bourbon like quality is a slight detractor because this is a rye. That said, an easy drinker and a quality whisky still.

A little hot but many different flavors throughout.

My first Rye Whisky! The nose happily surprised me with the apple cider notes and liquorice, while still being in the realm of American Whisky. There is some vanilla at the end as well. Oily on the tongue, the cider-like freshness from the nose can be felt as well with a tart, tingling sensation. There is plenty of spice in there to balance well. On the finish you have the desired spice with tones of that liquorice. The caramel or toffee is also there like it should be. I will definitely taste more Rye Whisky!

First Rye neat. Not as spicy as expected. Good flavors different than my usual. Getting orange pound cake, which is a good thing! Not getting big red gum finish but a bit of spice lingers. Not hot spice, spice spice. Not bad, but not yet sure if good.
