Vanilla, grain, and spice on the nose. Burned sugar then grassy spice, baking spice, heat, with a little fruit sweetness in the mouth. Finish is grassy rye and mint. Medium body, great mixer for classic cocktails. Six years in oak adds to its complexity which emerges with a little ice/water.
Retasted Oct 2020: lighter body and less heat than I remembered, more apple flavor, but otherwise the same profile--a solid spicy rye. Was a great mixer when it was cheaper and more readily available in the 1990s-2000s. Now, harder to come by...but still makes a good Sazerac or Manhattan.
