Glenlivet 15 Year French Oak Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 27, 2019 (edited January 21, 2020)Maybe it's the lingering VW Bus exhaust in my shop that's affecting my nose but all I can smell is apple juice. That's not bad. Mild taste. Apple, faint vanilla caramel, and oak. -
Glenlivet 12 Year Double Oak
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 17, 2019 (edited July 28, 2021)Nose: Definitely pear first, honey second, and a floral vanilla third. Sometimes it smells more like rootbeer. Palate: You can taste the oak. Neutral flavor, has sweetness but also pepperiness that lingers. This is one where reducing the time in your mouth returns a better flavor experience i.e. don't swish it around, just let it glide across your tongue and swallow. -
I don't know where all those tasting notes came from so we know I'm no expert! Definitely smoked peat but it's not overpowering. Smokey peat and sweet aroma. Sweet peaty flavor that's not strong; would make a good intro for those who want to try the flavor without going too strong with Laphroaig. I can find some subtle notes of pear in it.49.95 USD per Bottle

Papa's Pilar Sherry Finish Dark Rum
Dark Rum — Multiple Countries
Reviewed September 2, 2019 (edited December 21, 2020)Aroma: The maple syrup aroma is so strong that I was tempted to pour it on some pancakes! Some vanilla is there as well. Taste: While it has a sweetness it's not overpowering. Flavors of vanilla up front & then orange in the shadows. This is GREAT as a sipper (room temp or cooler) or in cola where you don't want a dominating in-your-face rum flavor. There is minor burn at the tip of the tongue but not enough to give your wife an "akk!" face. This does go well with a cigar of any strength! Rating is based on neat sipping. -
Has that Jamaican funk -- but not overpowering -- and a sweet, tropical fruit & banana aroma. My pre-teen son said it smells like a dry-erase marker. I think it has a mild sweetness, Jamaican carmely-funk, smoothness on the tongue but an after-burn that is a bit too strong and lingering. Someone mentioned it'd be better with ice but while that did calm the burn it made the flavor a little more stronger. Rating is based on neat sipping.
