Aroma has an initial hit of banana and then bourbon. Flavor is bourbon. Where's the rum? If I wanted bourbon, I would have bought a bottle. Pretty disappointing, there's nothing "rum" about this. Foursquare focuses too much on bourbon flavoring, a flavor I'm not fond of...I prefer scotch. Rating based on neat sipping and, in this case, the flavor NOT even hinting of rum. I want to make sure I don't buy this again.

From the bottle, this has a coffee & toffee aroma and a definite sweetness. Tastes sweet and has a nice, oily mouth feel. I'm getting Kahlua-like coffee flavor. Coffee flavor is there but in candy form. May be a bit too sweet straight-up for some but should go perfectly well as a mixer. Rating based on neat sipping.

Aroma is vanilla extract and a little bit of rootbeer. Kinda reminds me of the spiced rum they make. Taste is a bit difficult to determine. I'm getting molasses, brown sugar...I think? Some rootbeer in the retro-hale. The alcohol isn't strong but it still interrupts the taste profile with its heat and presence. I like their spiced rum much better. Rating based on neat sipping.

Aroma from the bottle is mostly vanilla and sugar cookie, but there's some molasses and allspice far in the background. Mmm, there's the rootbeer aroma after a couple minutes in the glass and it becomes rather dominant (not complaining). Flavors...oh my...yes, definitely getting that Christmas vibe! Sweet but not overpowering. Vanilla, honey, rootbeer, and some nutmeg in the flavors, along with an oiliness in texture. I'm gonna have to get a full-sized bottle of this! I think this will make a better flavored sipper instead of the regular coconut versions. This is a spiced rum i can get behind. Rating based on neat sipping.

Citrus-like aroma and a little chemical, like a lemon scented bleach wipe. Flavor mildly matches the aroma. Just like their white rum, I'm not getting "rum" flavors. A little peppery, mostly on the finish, but not cinnamon- that is, sweet - like one would expect. Not a sipper and I seriously doubt this would be any good for a rum cocktail as there is no rum taste. I didn't finish the dram, just not worth the disappointment. Rating based on neat sipping.

Ok, I admit this one surprised me as it's better than I thought. Aroma is gentle coconut, nothing overpowering, almost in a subtle perfume way but without the "fresh from the strip-club stage" vibe. Flavor is really good! Like the aroma, the taste is gentle coconut. I do get that sugar water profile in it. It's nice that it does not have a strong alcohol burn, which makes this a too-easy of a desert sipper, and "is there really alcohol in this?" type of mixer. Yeah...good stuff. Tropical fruits, ripe banana, holiday spices (nutmeg, allspice, clove) aromas. I can't nail down any specific flavors - mainly a very ripe tropical fruit mashup - so I'll have to go for the generic and unhelpful taste of...rum. Given that the flavor doesn't jump out to me, I would use this as a mixer, which shouldn't be the case given the price of this spirit. Even still, mixed with a cola, it doesn't have a good/memorable taste. Rating based on neat sipping.

Planteray Mister Fogg Navy Rum
Navy Rum — Multiple Countries
Reviewed September 22, 2024 (edited September 25, 2024)Aromas of tropical fruit that's fallen from the tree and decaying on the ground, along with overripe banana. Reminds me of a path we take from the road, through a forest where fruits hang from the trees and litter the ground, that opens to a small bay in Maui. Seriously tropical. The higher proof isn't as strong as an overproof, which makes sipping more tolerable. So, with the higher alcohol comes that familiar cinnamon flavor, which is strongly present. Generic "tropical fruits" and banana come to mind describing the flavors. I can't break the flavors down more, wish I could, but I wasn't blessed with good taste buds and sense of smell...despite my big shnoz! Mixing with cola is excellent. Honestly though, the aroma of this Caribbean elixir is the winner for me. Rating based on neat sipping.42.95 USD per Bottle -
