Seems either people love it or not. It's hard to nail down specifics. Caramel & brown sugar nose. Flavor is like watered-down caramel and cinnamon. Has a thin mouth feel. I'd give it 3 stars for use in mixed drinks. Not overly sweet and gives a smooth mouth feel. Pretty packaging but too much money for what it offers so I'll pass. Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 8, 2021 (edited February 14, 2021)Just to be clear, I'm not a bourbon fan, preferring scotch, and use Distiller for my own note taking. Aroma: Yep...bourbon but I can smell the hint of port (I like port wines). Flavor: Yep...bourbon. Okay, it's really not that bad and not overpowering. Has a gentle sweetness to it. Jefferson's Single Barrel Ocean Aged At Sea Voyage 22 (Total Wine no. 153)
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed January 20, 2021I love the story behind this brand. If you're not familiar with it then you definitely need to visit their website. Mine was "Single barrel bottled especially for Oregon", barrel #42, bottle #165. Light bourbon taste, which I prefer being a scotch drinker. Light, sweet aroma of caramel corn. Finishes with a mellow cinnamon-syrup fade. Reviews based on neat sipping.89.95 USD per Bottle -
"Mild" comes to mind with this good rum, both in taste and aroma. For my weak senses everything is faint. Aroma is honey, caramel, and tropical fruit. Flavors are caramely/toffee oak. It has an initial oily gentle sweetness in the mouth. A few drops of water helps to open up the aroma and flavor. Rating is based on neat sipping.47.95 USD per Bottle

While better than its younger brethren it's not as good as it should be. Light vanilla, caramel, and cola aroma. Flavor is a bit more caramel than vanilla, ending in an orangish alcohol heat. I think it tastes better as a quick sip than one that you would let linger in your mouth. Gives mixed drinks a more alcoholic flavor and a feeling of more sweetness, like an enhancement or boost. Not bad at all. Rating is based on neat sipping.59.95 USD per Bottle

Balvenie Doublewood 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 13, 2020 (edited November 21, 2020)Sweet green apple and honey aroma. I can't pin down exact, distinctive flavors. Some apple, oak, and vanilla, all with a gentle sweetness. Too much alcohol burn for my tastes. I prefer the 14yr. Caribbean Cask.64.95 USD per Bottle -
Aroma: Faint caramel & alcohol. Flavor: Quick sip is slightly floral & alcohol. A longer taste reveals little; very tolerable alcohol thanks to the sweetness, caramel, and a toasted flavor I quite can't nail down...marshmallow skin and/or banana? Not a good sipper and "it'll do" for mixed drinks. Kraken Black Spiced Rum is better and cheaper. Rating is based on neat sipping.39.95 USD per Bottle

Nose: Smooth caramel and vanilla. And alcohol which isn't so groovy. Taste: A quick sip is plain sweetness. Longer gets alcohol heat with sweetness, minor vanilla & brown sugar. I'm seeing no significant difference compared to the 12-y.o. version. Works much better as a mixer. Rating is based on neat sipping.49.95 USD per Bottle

Kraken Black Spiced Rum Original
Spiced Rum — Trinidad & Tobago
Reviewed August 10, 2020 (edited October 11, 2023)This seems to be a polarizing spirit as folks seem to either like it or hate it. Aroma: Dark cola, vanilla, & molasses. Flavors: Sugarcane, molasses, spice. Has a syrupy sweetness. While not bad as a sipper (in my opinion) it goes best as a mixer. Rating is based on neat sipping.20.95 USD per Bottle
