I went into the the Liquor Store with plans to buy a bottle of Absolut Elit, but it was sold out. Looking over the selection, I decided to try a bottle of Sid's, made in British Columbia. It is pot distilled, which is supposed to provide more flavor. It is made of winter wheat and barley malt. I tried this neat, on the rocks, with a few olives, and was very impressed with the taste and flavor. Very smooth, with a quality that belies it's it's $30 Ontario price. For a vodka this good, at this price, is a wonderful find.

I am a big rye fan. I have a storage locker full of Dissertation, which is my all-time favorite Canadian. Dissertation is also 11 years old and costs $65 a bottle, but it is no longer available. Wendel Clark is 11 years old and sells for $45 a bottle. Considering the difference in price, I think that this is an exceptional whisky. The distilling process and the casks used have resulted in a delicious whisky that I plan on buying for future pleasure. Don does it again!

Gooderham & Worts Eleven Souls
Canadian — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed October 28, 2018 (edited July 28, 2022)I read that 85% of this blend is composed of whiskies aged at least 17 years. There is even some 22 year old whisky. This is spectacular stuff. It's so rounded and cohesive. Dr. Don is a master. The 11 casks chosen work perfectly together. I can't imagine the amount of tweeking required to orchestrate this masterpiece. Just choosing the right casks alone would be a daunting task. -
Deanston Virgin Oak
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed June 5, 2018 (edited October 17, 2021)This is the best NAS Single Malt I have ever enjoyed. I'd guess that it's been aged for between six and eight years. It's a little rough, but in this case it adds to the pleasure. This is my second bottle and I'm sure there will be more of this marvelous elixir in my future. A wonderful value. -
Johnnie Walker Green Label 15 Year
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed April 26, 2018 (edited February 4, 2022)This re-introduced version of Green is definitely not as smoky as the original. But it is still excellent. In order to elevate this blend to it's original glory, I add 20% Lagavulin 16. Lovely, indeed.90.0 CAD per Bottle -
J.P. Wiser's Dissertation
Canadian — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed April 10, 2018 (edited April 24, 2018)This is whiskey that brings a smile to my face. It is both well-rounded and flavorful. It equals or surpasses any single malt I've tried. I hope Dr. Don has an equally impressive replacement when it's gone.
