George Dickel No. 12
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed March 18, 2020 (edited November 13, 2023)This is a very good whiskey to drink. I have only had Jack Daniels to compare this to and it does beat the pants off of JD. I would like to try this side by side with regular JD and Gentleman Jack to see how it ranks against those two. It is a Tennessee whiskey through and through the charcoal is right there waiting on you when you open the bottle. That is not a bad thing if you like Tenn whiskey. I want to thank Ctrexman for saying the part about "Flintstones vitamins" taste because it does describe the taste very well. I really think this should be the face of every day drinking Tennessee whiskey and not JD. I am really looking forward to trying the GD Barrel Select. Enjoy.25.0 USD per Bottle -
This is an absolutely wonderful single malt whiskey that I am so glad that I bought. It is one of the best Irish whiskeys of any type I have ever had the pleasure to drink. It has a deeper flavor than any other Irish whiskey I have had to date. It has a sweet fruity nose and initial taste of vanilla which smooths out to a nutty mid-taste and a hint of wood at the end. This is a really nice drink. I have had this neat and on the rocks and I would not mix this with anything ever. Don't Do It. ( Actually do what you want it is your bottle) I can't say enough good about this whiskey it is what I imagine great whiskey is supposed to be. And on a personal note, this is a solemn whiskey for me I opened my bottle with an Army buddy of mine the day he had to put his Airedale Terrier Luc down and we drank about half the bottle just talking about life and the way dogs make life better. Red River Texas Bourbon Whiskey Finished in Pinot Noir Casks
Bourbon — Texas, USA
Reviewed March 18, 2020 (edited May 22, 2020)This is a very difficult Bourbon to find east of the Mississippi River so on the same business trip that I was able to find W.L. Weller I found a bottle of this as well. It is finished in Pinot Noir wine barrels so I had certain expectations about how it would taste. As with so many things in life expectations and reality are not always talking to each other and I will admit my own error in tasting this after other Bourbons. My dad and I tasted this after trying W. L. Weller 12 yo and Angels Envy. Both of those Bourbons are very smooth and mellow with the flavor moving gracefully across your taste buds with no hurry or rush. Red River is not like that at all. The flavor explodes onto your taste buds like a firecracker I got notes of wood and wine scents some spice and a bit of sweetness. I waited for several weeks before tasting again and the flavors were still there but much more pleasant. This is a robust Bourbon and should be treated as such. I like it on the rocks or with a touch of water and I have not made any mixed drinks with it yet. This is an unusual Bourbon and I will revisit it in a month or so to see if my taste and oxygen have changed the flavor any. I do like it but I do not think it is for everyone.35.0 USD per Bottle -
I have had this bourbon several times and while there are worse ones on the market there are also better ones for near the price point. Ancient Age has a mild nose to me and a bit of vanilla and some sugar but after that, it is just ethanol which is sad. I understand from some reviews here and some older family members that AA used to have a better deeper flavor but with the greater demand for whiskey so many older labels have gone to younger blends. Where I live you can buy Evan Williams 1783 for three dollars more than AA and it tastes so much better. I will not buy this again and what I have left I will just mix with coke or ginger ale.12.0 USD per Bottle

Weller Special Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 18, 2020 (edited September 14, 2020)Happy Days are here. I went on a business trip recently and they had Weller Special Reserve on the shelf. I bought some to bring back to South Carolina for gifts for friends and family because we have all been looking for this. When I first got serious about drinking whiskey a few years ago my local store would get this in nearly weekly but as of this week, they have not had any in the last 4 months. So what does this taste like to me? It tastes of soft vanilla and caramel with a light touch of oak. The burn I feel is right as I feel the liquid go down and the aftertaste is great. I used to make Old Fashioneds and Manhattans with this but the harder it is to find the less I mix it and save it for special occasions. I really like this Bourbon but do hate that it has become so scarce in my area. I used to say this was a great introductory Bourbon because of the price but now I have to save it for other things. Lastly, I agree with Ctrexman from the review below about the bourbon being on the sweet side making me happy and at just how good Buffalo Trace's products are. Enjoy25.0 USD per Bottle -
Drumshanbo Gunpowder Irish Gin
Modern Gin — Ireland
Reviewed March 18, 2020 (edited November 13, 2023)This is the Gin that got me drinking gin as a grown man. I had seen a few reviews on other sites and when I saw it at my local store I jumped at the chance to buy it. Now, this is one of the best gins on the market if you like a more citrus focused blend. You do start with a smooth juniper nose that moves to the citrus notes with a soft mellow finish. This makes a great Gin and Tonic and Gimlet with the citrus notes really showing up as you drink. It also makes an amazing Gin and Tonic with grapefruit instead of lime. I do not like grapefruit but with this gin, I do like it. In Martini's only Noilly Prat and Dolin work with it and you need to use a 3 or 4 to 1 ratio in the drink. My only real fault with the liquid is they do not offer a higher proof version but that is it I love everything else about this liquid. In closing my local store has it at half the price listed here so it is right in line with a ton of other wonderful gins. Enjoy!35.0 USD per Bottle -
I finally broke down and bought a bottle of the really nice gin based on the reviews here and my own research. I was not disappointed in the flavor at all it has a near amazing flavor. The classic juniper nose and little hints of some of the other botanicals are right there when you first open the bottle. The liquid itself changes as you sip it and I do recommend a little bit of ice. It has so many flavors that I had to look them all up to try to grasp what I was tasting but it made the drink better knowing what was in there. Now for the bad (sort of) news when this is mixed at my regular portions so many of the flavors disappear. In a Gin and Tonic, I usually do a 3 oz of Gin to 6 oz of Tonic but with this Gin, I have to do 4 or 5 to get the flavors to emerge. In a Martini, I have to add an additional oz to get the flavor I am looking for. With that being said I do realize I have been drinking Naval strength gin leading up to that so I will revisit this in a week or so to see if my tastes change. Overall, this is a very solid, very drinkable gin that someone that likes gin will like it and a novice will not be afraid of it and it is a bit expensive in my area.40.0 USD per Bottle

Rittenhouse Rye Bottled in Bond
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 18, 2020 (edited November 13, 2023)I have has this rye in my bar right now and it makes me mad but in a good way. I really, really like it probably more than the Bulleit Rye which I have enjoyed for years and has now been replaced. This rye has a great full flavor and like WhiskeyFunatic said it tastes like a "bourbon but with a heavy rye spice kick" and he is correct. This makes a great Rye Old-fashioned and Manhattan. As long as my local store carries it and the price does not go up to much then I will continue to drink this and keep it in my bar.25.0 USD per Bottle -
This can be a very divisive whiskey I have tried several bottles of it and every group I drink with has different things to say. For me I really like it. It is smooth and pleasant to drink neat or with a touch of water or a bit of ice. The flavor lingers in my mouth and it changes wonderfully and the burn is nice. I do think it is about $10 overpriced but it is a very good whiskey for special occasions but too pricey for an everyday drinker.70.0 USD per Bottle

Plymouth Navy Strength Gin
Navy-Strength Gin — England
Reviewed March 18, 2020 (edited October 23, 2022)I bought this a little while back and wanted to taste it in several drinks before I wrote a review of it especially since this will the Gin's first Rabble Review. So here we go. This is an outstanding and easy drinking Gin. It is a Navy Strength version of the regular Plymouth Gin. However, the botanicals seem to be stronger and more pronounced in this one as well. It has a wonderful juniper nose with a mixture of others and a citrus middle and end. Now if you drink this liquid you had better put on your "big boy drinking pants" because of the difference in proofs if you mix your drinks at the same ratios you will feel it very fast. Plymouth NS makes an outstanding Gin and Tonic (I like mine with two lime wedges) and even with the higher proof it goes down very smoothly. In my Martinis, I do a 3 to 1 ratio of gin to vermouth and it will knock your socks off with this gin. Dolins and Noilly Pratt ED are amazing with this gin. Lastly, a Gimlet was made for this gin. The flavors work so well together and on a hot South Carolina afternoon, it is a little glass of heaven. The only reason I did not score this higher is that it is very hard to find in the liqueur stores around me as only one store carries it regularly. Overall this is an outstanding Gin and I will do my best to keep it in my bar. If you like the original I believe you will like this as well.35.0 USD per Bottle
