Filibuster Single Estate Single Barrel Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Virginia, USA
Reviewed February 25, 2023Smells and tastes like a basket of fruits. Strong apple and berry notes. Slight honey with deep caramel. As expected, with this being a wheat, even with the high proof, it's sweet. It would he hard to guess the proof. The finish has some dark oak notes to give it a bit more diversity. -
Jim Beam Pre-Prohibition Style Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 24, 2023 (edited November 9, 2023)The nose doesn't suggest that this would be a rye. Not much in terms of spice. Some sort of dark fruit and cocoa on the nose. Along either dark caramel and oak. Pretty dark and malty for a rye, with some sweetness as well. The flavor leans more on the darker notes. Oak with some char in the back. There's some citrus as well with mint that rises until the finish. There's a decent sweet finish at the end. I'm liking it the more I drink it. It isn't complex, but it is different for a rye. -
A pretty standard bourbon fare. Lightly sweet nose. Bit if vanilla and apple. Flavor profile is oak heavy, but not in a bad way. There's some nice char in there, but it seems to mostly take it over. Dark caramel and some dark coffee note hide in the back. Finish ends a bit sweet with a bit of mint. Not bad at all for the price.

Woodford Reserve Master's Collection Batch Proof 123.2
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 18, 2023It's somewhat unique but not necessarily complex. Hints of smoke and wood on the nose. The flavor doesn't have much to offer, but it's interesting. Smoke, wood, pecan, almond, vanilla, and pear. There's some good flavor here, but nothing that will blow your mind. -
The nose is actually quite nice. Sweet butter, apple, a bit floral, and pepper. The flavor here is much to be desired. Sure, I didn't have high expectations going in, and there is little positive to come away with. Quite a bit of leather, some tobacco and oak. There's some slight green apple in the background. Some dark licorice and spearmint as well. The finish is a bit bitter and off-putting. I bought this in a taster, so I'm not exactly sure about the cost of a standard bottle. I knew it wasn't much going in. Still, there's much better cheap options.

Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Barrel Proof Tennessee Whiskey
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed February 11, 2023Just a monster of a pour. Nose has some slight herbal and floral notes. Mostly spice, banana char and vanilla is present. There's a slight oak note at the beginning with dark caramel and spice. There's banana as well, but more sweetness and fruit begins to open up. Banana, apple, sweet like candy. Not in the artificial sense mind you. It finishes on heavy spice and caramel. It's quite hot. Which is understandable at the proof it is at. There is just a lot here and is loaded with flavor. -
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch A123
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 10, 2023 (edited April 4, 2023)The nose has notes of dark caramel, pepper, orange peel, vanilla, oak, and a bit of leather. The fruit notes are a bit in the background but are present enough to add dimension. It's really nice. The flavor has heavy-handed dark caramel, and some saltiness lies with the heavy spice. Its quintessential EC flavors turned up to 11. There's some red hot candy as well with pepper and nice char flavor. It finishes on the slightly sweeter side, still drenched with oaky caramel. My initial impression was that it was a solid pour. The more I drink it, the more I like it. -
It's unique to say the least. It had a nice nose, with a below average flavor profile. The nose had a bit of an apple cider note, with another fruit note I cant quite pick out. Honey as well, something a bit sour in the back, and a slight floral note. It begins with that apple note along with oak. It transitions into some sort of dark berry note. It ends with a strange dry finish. Has this sort of strange liquor taste you'd expect from a cheap liquor. It might remind you of your college days. There's something sour about it you can quite put your finger on. The fruit notes present makes it like they're not quite ripe. I give it credit for trying something different. With a few tweaks there can be something pretty good. But as it stands, it's a bottle you can skip.

George Dickel 13 Year Bottled in Bond Tennessee Whisky (Fall 2008)
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed February 1, 2023 (edited April 11, 2024)Notes of sweet vanilla, caramel, some smoke, a bit of nuttiness as well. The char is quite prevalent on the flavor profile along with dark berry, licorice, cinnamon, almond, and slight smoke with a finish of burnt oak and spice. This is a really good pour. The nose and flavor are on two different ends of the spectrum. But they're both very pleasant. There's a nice lingering flavor that pulls you back for another sip. I like it more as time goes on.
