GlenDronach The Hielan' 8 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 31, 2017 (edited May 13, 2018)There is quite a strong spirit element to this one. The nose is somehow chemical but the palate (underneath the young spirit taste) is surprisingly balanced. There is citrus a plenty, sweet notes and bitter brine. Very different to any other glendronach with much less sherry. Good value for money -
Aberlour 12 Year Non Chill-Filtered
Single Malt — Highland, Scotland
Reviewed January 13, 2017 (edited January 26, 2017)Perfectly pleasant and worth a try. On the nose you get vanilla and strawberry jam and the palate is sweet, spicy and very rich. Most dominant are caramel, sherry and then dark chocolate. Packs a punch too at 48%, so enjoyable to experiment with adding some water to open it up -
Bruichladdich Islay Barley Rockside Farm 2007
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed December 30, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)This one is curled up tight like a hedgehog until you add a good bit of water but then it reveals an incredible vanilla custard crumble followed by a dollop of heat. Quite unique, a natural and somehow sophisticated taste compared to smoke and sherry bombs -
Nikka Taketsuru 17 Year Pure Malt
Blended Malt — Japan
Reviewed December 29, 2016 (edited April 24, 2018)Really nicely balanced. -
Talisker Distillers Edition
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed December 22, 2016 (edited August 5, 2017)Lovely sweetness to the nose and initial taste of aniseed and vanilla. Quickly flips to spicy, leathery and woody crescendo before a warm finish. This has much more personality than the 10 year but needs to be savoured slowly to fully appreciate the levels
