Plymouth Navy Strength Gin
Navy-Strength Gin — England
Reviewed January 8, 2022 (edited April 30, 2022)Fruity, Juniper and Harsh This is one of the few older gins that I don't only taste lemon as the fruit, I also get berry tastes (like blackcurrant or raspberry). Furthermore, this gin tastes sweet to me as compared with others, like a sort of soda-pop aftertaste. Other than that this tastes like a good standard gin, junipers and all. Finally, I'd be remiss to not talk about the harshness of this strong gin - at 57% abv it packs a punch, and I notice it. I must say that this 57% gin goes down smoother than a lot of 40% gins I've tasted. Its one of a kind; it tastes like an exotic london dry, and is definitely worth a try. -
Fruity and Floral: This doesn't taste like a typical gin. Up front I taste exotic fruits such as lychee. I can also taste flowers such as elderflower. This gin is very bright, and the flavor isn't off-putting. The downside of this gin is that it is incredibly pricey. It's one of the best modern gins I had, but I don't think its worth the price tag.40.0 USD per Bottle

Spicy and Earthy: I get dark flavors from this gin. It tastes of a traditional gin, but with a spicy overtone. Towards the end the earthiness kicks in, and if you're unlucky you can taste a bit of perfume. I like this gin for how bold it is. It's one of the few I can have on its own. I love this gin in a collins as well. The downside is its a bit pricier than beefeater and tanq, but who doesn't love that lovely blue bottle.26.0 USD per Bottle

Lemon and Oil: This tastes straight up like lemon rind to me. I searched for more flavor and I got some oil in there (which was not good). You can get some juniper and typical gin flavors in there as well, but the lemon dominates. Where I'm from, we have cheap vodka that comes in plastic bottles. I'm certain that they flavor those vodkas with citrus to mask the cheapness. This honestly reminds me of a slightly higher class version of that. To me, this gin aint worth the hype.30.0 USD per Bottle

Floral and Citrus: This gin is very bright. Right up front you can get the floral and citrus (lemon) flavors. You can also taste the herbal elements, but ditch the herbal chemical taste. Most gin tastes medicinal to me, this does not. Overall this gin was good, but not very complex. I like it neat, but I wonder if it will be bland in a mixed drink. If you want to have a gin, but hate chemical taste, go for this. Otherwise, it might be a bit pricey for how bland it is.38.0 USD per Bottle

Herbal, Rich and Chemical: This gin is super complex. Out of all the gin's I tasted this one made me say "oh that's interesting". up front the flavors are deep dark and earthy, but they give way to herbal floral and agave/leafy flavors. You can also find some spice in there as well. I actually don't even notice the juniper in it. However, for me, it is hard to find a gin that doesn't taste like chemicals, and this is no exception. I'm willing to bet that the more stuff you put in a gin, the more likely that some portion of the population will get a chemical taste (kind of like how some people hate cilantro). For me this gin won't be enjoyed neat, due to that chemical flavor, but its so complex that if I thin it out with anything, I'll be sure to enjoy what it has to offer. If you want a complex gin that doesn't quite taste like one you had before, go for this, its worth a spin on the wheel.30.0 USD per Bottle

Beefeater London Dry Gin (40%)
London Dry Gin — England
Reviewed January 7, 2022 (edited October 31, 2024)Juniper and Citrus: Tastes strongly of juniper and lemon rind and earl grey tea. I also can't help but notice a bit of chemical taste. Overall, standard gin, its got all the basic elements, but adds a bit of a twist with the earl grey. The only downside is that solvent flavor, and for me, it ruins it. This gin is cheap as chips (as they say), for the price and how it tastes, its definitely worth it if you want a standard experience24.0 USD per Bottle -
Clément VSOP Rhum Agricole
Rhum Agricole Vieux — Martinique
Reviewed July 5, 2021 (edited April 28, 2022)Sweet, Woody & Fruity This drink is so sweet up front. But there is a woodyness to it next. Underneath it all there is a concord grape fruityness. It finishes with a slight eucalyptus like freshness. This doesn't taste like anything I've ever had, it has the weirdest combination of flavors that I don't even associate with rum or anything else, but I like it.35.0 USD per Bottle -
Hogo and Savory This rum is the definition of hogo to me. It taste like molasses and the smell of rotten banana peels. There is also a savory type of richness, that tastes like tomatoes, I usually only get this flavor from cachaca. This rum is very strong and cheap. It isn't lacking in flavor and tastes great. If you're looking for a mixer, get it, just be sure to adjust for the abv.21.0 USD per Bottle

Plantation 3 Stars White Rum
Silver Rum — Multiple Countries
Reviewed July 5, 2021 (edited August 7, 2021)Sweet & Molasses This rum tastes like molasses up front, in fancy speak, you can call it hogo. There is also a sweetness and richness to it. It tastes lovely, there is enough nuance, and it isn't overpowering. The price is incredible, and I even got the 1L bottle for cheaper than the 750, If you're going to get bacardi, just get this instead.18.0 USD per Bottle
