Rich and Fruity This rum tastes like the lemon from a cheap vodka up front, but mostly tastes of a barrel afterwards. Like the spicy barrel. At the end it finishes with a cognac type fruit taste and alcohol bite. None of the traditional rum tastes are in this, I can hardly taste the molasses. The taste isn't foul/off, but there is nothing special about this rum to me.32.0 USD per Bottle

Ron Diplomático Reserva Exclusiva Rum
Aged Rum — Venezuela
Reviewed July 4, 2021 (edited September 9, 2021)Sweet Vanilla, Rich and Spicy: Smells sweet and tastes sweet too. The flavor is dark and rich. Up front I get barrel spices and vanilla. There are very sweet undertones of sweetness. Afterwards I get an alcohol (maybe not ethanol) aftertaste. This rum is complex and tasty. You can tell that its rum, but it has even more going on too (reminds me of wine and whiskey). It's relatively inexpensive as far as spirits go, so there is little risk to getting it. If you get it, I bet you'll like it.35.0 USD per Bottle -
Tres Papalote Mezcal Wild Cupreata Agave Joven (46%)
Mezcal Joven — Guerrero, Mexico
Reviewed May 18, 2021Smokey, Fruity and Floral Smells and tastes like dark smoke. Once you get acclimated to the smoke you can taste bright citrus, light flowers and yellow bell peppers. It isn't entirely unpleasant, in fact there is some good stuff there. I must just hate mezcal, the smoke is too much for me. I got this as a gift, so I can't say whether it was worth it. It tastes okay, but there are many other spirits I'd rather spend my liver on. -
Rich and Sweet Tastes very rich. You'll taste dark mezcal smoke with bourbon wood notes and vanilla. the drink is deep and sweet and has a sort of cream vanilla cream on the wooden spoon taste, which mixes quite well with the smoky agave flavor. It finishes a wee bit bitter, but that's likely from the wood. This drink is quite good, its very complex, but also very tasty on the surface. You don't have to be a master in spirits to appreciate this (I know because I'm not). The only downside is the price tag. It's too expensive, and probably not worth it. I don't prefer mezcal that much over other spirits to justify the expense.90.0 USD per Bottle

Del Maguey Chichicapa Mezcal
Mezcal Joven — Oaxaca, Mexico
Reviewed May 13, 2021 (edited March 6, 2022)Chemical, Spicy and Sweet This smells like black smoke and agave. On first sip you'll taste a pepper spice. That quickly fades into black smoke, and chemical tastes of plastic, tar and gun powder. There is a vegetal sweetness in there, but its underlying and gets overpowered by the chemical taste. I don't like this, and I don't think its worth the $75 price tag. Perhaps people like it because it is so unique. I honestly have no idea how they got this to taste like tar, but I don't like it. If you can get past the tar, there are some interesting sweet flavors in there, but I can't pick them out.75.0 USD per Bottle -
Don Julio Añejo Tequila
Tequila Añejo — Los Altos, Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed May 12, 2021 (edited July 1, 2021)Spicy, Rich and Sweet The spirit smells of sweet agave. But, tastes of peppery spiciness; fruity sweetness (like cognac, but more citrus, less stone fruit); and the rich barrel tastes of oak and vanilla. The spirit is bright up front and finishes bitter. I really enjoy the middle notes of this spirit. But I can see some people being thrown off by the up front spiciness or back end bitterness (that's me). I enjoy that this spirit is bright, no earthiness or dark notes to speak of. I don't really taste the agave at all though, so I'm not quite sure how to use this spirit, perhaps for its citrus properties. Overall I think this was worth trying, and is certainly worth sipping, but I'm not sure how often I'll be returning to it.46.0 USD per Bottle -
Corralejo Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Guanajuato, Mexico
Reviewed May 10, 2021 (edited December 12, 2021)Rich I smell agave, but I don't taste it that much. This tequila tastes light, but also rich. Much of the flavor seems to be coming from the barrel, but it isn't strongly woody. The tequila is sweet, and tastes of baking spices. It's so unique, I forgot this was tequila for a bit. The evolution lasts long, and there is much depth of flavor. This tequila is good and very sophisticated. It is worth trying, even if you don't like tequila because it is so unique and at a good price.28.0 USD per Bottle -
Gran Centenario Plata Tequila
Tequila Blanco — Jalisco, Mexico
Reviewed May 10, 2021 (edited November 15, 2022)Rich and Agave This spirit smells pungent, like agave and chemical. It tastes dark and rich, like earthy agave mixed with a touch of citrus and wood. Towards the finish the drink gets bitter from the wood. Overall this spirit is quite good, so far, its the best dark and rich tasting plata tequila I've had neat. For $27 it is pretty good value.27.0 USD per Bottle -
Spicy and Sweet This cognac tastes like a spicy barrel, the spice is quite heavy. Other flavors get lost in the spice to me, but it is perfectly fine tasting. This mixes well because it is so strongly spicy, when I mix it I taste the fruit notes as well, but neat I only get the spice26.0 USD per Bottle

Fruity and Spicy This tastes like a regular cognac, that is you can taste those dark fruit notes. It is also spicy like a barrel. I don't get the love of this one, it doesn't seem special, it seems regular. This was too much for what it is, furthermore, it doesn't really mix well in cocktails, it doesn't seem to stand up.43.0 USD per Bottle
