I had this early on in my whiskey journey, and I liked it then, but I didn’t know why exactly. The second time around trying neat, I detect more in it. It’s definitely a spicy bourbon with it being so high in rye. The nose smells like a typical bourbon. The taste has notes of vanilla, a good deal of rye spice, and light cinnamon. The follow through feels like smoke, not in the sense of peat from scotch, but it feels like a cigar burn type of smokiness. It’s definitely not as “interesting” as some of the other bourbons, but for the price, it’s probably going to be a bourbon that I keep around always.

Jack Daniel's Gentleman Jack
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed July 2, 2020 (edited July 30, 2020)I like this SO much better than the original Jack Daniel’s. Everything that is a let down is fixed and mellowed down in the Gentleman version. The banana note tastes like a more creamy banana soaked in alcohol. The alcohol burn is way more smooth. Nose has less alcohol burn as well. There’s still not much of a follow up note , but that’s probably due to how mellow everything is. Creamy, boozy banana. Love it -
Nose - Alcohol soaked banana! Taste - Pretty thin, banana and vanilla. A little bit of alcohol burns. Follow-through - Doesn't stay around for long. Not much of a mouthfeel, or coating on the tongue Overall thoughts - I don't hate it, but I don't love it. It's definitely unique in that it is pretty mellow and has a banana note to it. Out of all of the big name brand American, Jack Daniel's is pretty good. I would rather buy Gentleman Jack to get the mellowness and fuller taste.

I like this alot more than I like standard Maker's mark. This is one of the first instances where higher proof in a whiskey is a reason why I like said whiskey. The whiskey feels and tastes fuller because of it (my main gripe with standard Maker's is that it is thin. The mouthfeel is pretty great. Tasting notes is a full wheated bourbon (caramel-y) with notes of vanilla and spice. I would definitely keep a bottle of this around. Bet it is good on ice.

I like this more than I have liked it in the past. It's more subtle than I remember. I don't absolutely love it. The nose is too strong for me, which has made me not want to buy or drink it. It just smells like ethanol and a little bit of vanilla. The taste is a pretty mellow vanilla with some spice. Definitely a little thin, and doesn't linger at all. The finish is mostly just a light alcohol burn. It doesn't linger around a whole lot. I probably wouldn't buy a full bottle of this again, there's too much other whiskey out there to try. But it definitely is a standard for a reason. It's probably pretty great on the rocks and mixed with coke etc.

Outside of Makers, this is my first wheated bourbon, and I like it! I would definitely prefer this to Makers Mark. The nose is pleasant, caramel-y, and not too strong. The taste is a little more mellow than standard rye bourbons, which I like. Tastes of caramel and slight vanilla. I don't know how to pinpoint the wheat taste, but I like it. The follow through is where all of the burn is, which isn't too bad, but it's definitely interesting. The way it stays around in the mouth feel is really interesting and I really like that about it. I was lucky to find a 375ml that was cheap, but I don't know if I would pay a ton for a 750ml bottle of this, given that it's so rare and expensive when you actually see it.33.0 USD per Bottle

I don’t love this, but it’s decent! The nose mostly smells like coffee with a little alcohol burn. Drinking it neat, it’s underwhelming, which I expected with it being what it is. It gets better on the rocks. It’s decent, but I would rather mix Jameson and black coffee myself. Decent idea, not worth buying though

I hate this. I realize that it's supposed to be a friendly whiskey for people who don't usually like whiskey. And I get that it's not made to drink neat. But MAN.... I can't find anything interesting about this, even if it were to go in a mixed drink. I would be able to pick out it's gross bitterness in any cocktail. There's a really artificial bitterness in the taste that I can't pinpoint or get over. I expected this to be an easy drinker, and a decent mixer, but it's not useful to me, and I won't be buying more of this. It just smells and tasters cheap.

Not my favorite rye that I’ve ever had, but I really like it! With it being straight rye, it’s definitely really spicey. The nose presents itself as a typical rye. The palate is really strong at first but calms down after a bit. Notes of spice and apples. This rye gets better with a little bit of water added. The taste seems to have a bit of cinnamon in it. I really like it, not sure if I’ll buy a full bottle, there’s too many ryes I want to try first, but once I’m done exploring, I could see this being a daily drinker for me.

I like this for what it is, which is a typical mixing whiskey from Canada. I would prefer this over Crown Royal in that scenario. The nose is very sweet, to me it smells just like cotton candy. The taste or palate is just as sweet as the nose, except it has some vanilla and more cream to it. I can't see myself wanting to drink it completely neat, it would be too sweet for that. But if I was in the mood for a sweeter old fashioned or cocktail, this is a good bottle to have around. It's not necessarily a whisky demanding to be enjoyed neat, so I won't judge it as that. For the price, it's a good bottle to have on hand.24.0 USD per Bottle
