Nose: Gentle but very complex. Honey sweetness, bright citrus - like orange, lemon, and grapefruit influence, sea salt like standing by the fresh sea breeze. Warm soft smoke lingers in the background-reminiscent of pleasant pipe tobacco and camp smoke. There’s also a sweet character which reminds me of sherry cask influence in the DE, though I’m 95% sure there’s no sherry in this whisky. I could take in this aroma all day. Palate: Honey sweetness and orange citrus at the front. The whisky warms up gently as sea salt flavors emerge and the characteristic black pepper shows up. The finish is long, lingering, and it demands another sip - leaving behind honey and citrus sweetness and billows of mellow pipe smoke finally appear at the end. This one stays with you. Amber colored and medium bodied, this whisky has a mouthfeel like melting chocolate - smooth, full, and silky. This is a perfect single malt. Everything Talisker 10 does so well is elevated and perfect in 18. Just give it some time in the glass- it does get better with time!

Oban Little Bay

Reviewed December 30, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)Nose: Caramel sweetness, orange, sea salt, a little honey and baking spices. Palate: Orange, honey, and gentle caramel at the front. The flavor heats up a little and spiciness increases. Finish is smooth, silky and warming leaving a lingering honey and grapefruit with a soft smoke rising at the end. Nectar colored, Lighter - medium bodied whisky with a silky mouthfeel. I actually prefer this expression to the Oban 14, though both are top notch. -
Eagle Rare 10 Year Bourbon

Palate: Cherry & vanilla sweetness, soft at first but it become harsher, increasing in spiciness-cinnamon/cloves. Finish is very dry, a bit harsh. Dry cherry-oak flavor is left behind. Color is dark honey, body is light-medium. Despite the harsher finish, mouthfeel is fairly silky. -

Lagavulin 16 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed December 28, 2017 (edited December 29, 2017)Nose: out of the gate, you’re greeted by a bold, meaty brisket smoke and some peatiness. Saltiness and brine rise to join the aroma. Underneath all that intensity, a mellow lemon and honey lie waiting to be uncovered. Palate: very intense at first, but it opens up on the second sip. Gentle honey and malt sweetness at the front heat up to intense smoke. Finish is long, meaty, and Smokey: brisket, peat, and sea salt. The dram is a rich caramel color and a medium-heavy bodied whisky. A perfect Islay whisky. A perfect single malt. -
Nose: honey, fruitiness, oakiness, subtle nuttiness and caramel. Very balanced and smooth. Palate: smooth, gentle, and warm. sweetness, honey, nuttiness, soft oak throughout, a subtle fruity finish entices another sip leaving a silky sensation behind. Light on the tongue. A darker honeyed color. It’s not the boldest Speyside, but it’s classic and inviting nonetheless. A really great expression for everyone - whisky newcomers and connoisseurs alike!

Balvenie Doublewood 12 Year

Palate: warming honey at the front, rich oakiness joins partway through followed by subtle fruity (maybe apple) sweetness. A delightfully long and lingering dry finish leaves a subtle banana sweetness demanding another sip. I would describe the color as a honey yellow and the body as light. -
