Buck 8 Year
Bourbon — Kentucky (bottled in California), USA
Reviewed April 8, 2023 (edited April 9, 2023)On the nose fruity and chocolate at first. First sip offers char, chocolate, and apple. Ice doesn’t add much for me. Ice does soften the burn slightly but overall not much change in flavor. Not very complex. -
James E. Pepper 1776 Barrel Proof Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed April 8, 2023 (edited April 9, 2023)On the nose strong vanilla with slight ethanol. Great arroma. First sip is surprisingly sweet with notes of vanilla, old worn leather, floral, and pecan. For a barrel proof and being over 116 this does not have a severe burn. The burn is as smooth as the juice itself. This could easily be enjoyed neat. Ice cube brings out some of the peppery undertones, softens the burn, and increased the linger and full mouth feel. This one is good all around. No matter how you drink it you will enjoy this one! I recommend it highly! -
Floral, honey, and slight citris on the nose. Peaty, char, and slight oak on the first sip. Tannic on the front of the tongue and a quick flash burn at the back of the throat. The flavor isnt intense but the linger is longer than expected. Ice cube removes any burn and isolates some of the peaty and honey. Been wanting to try this and glad i got to. This is as good as i hoped. I recommend this to anyone that hasn’t tried it.

On the nose I get floral and vanilla. First sip offers Woody, oak, leather, with a peppery finish. Burn is there and really nice duration. The linger doesn’t last too long. I would like it to last a longer but still consistent with a good bourbon. Ice reduces burn but intensified the leather, char, and opens up a slight oak finish. Not bad for a distillery only open for 7+yrs.
