Bright nose with some alcohol, but not as much as the Old Forester Statesman. Some citrus notes in the mouth while tasting the nose. Warm caramel and vanilla. Expands slowly. Medium body. Quite smooth. Slight spiciness when chewing, but very little burn. Nice lingering flavor highlighted with caramel and toasted oak flavors. Good finish length in the back of the mouth.

Old Forester Statesman
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 1, 2018 (edited September 22, 2018)Tasting alongside Larceny and Jim Beam Black Label. Strong alcohol nose. Bright. Brightest of the three. Surprisingly smooth given the strong nose. Full bodied with warm flavors of caramel and slight butterscotch without being sweet. Butterscotch more pronounced than Jim Beam Black. Does not expand in the mouth like a high proof bourbon. Flavor lingers. Some spice without being prickly. The Statesman is the most complex of the three by far. Best fullness, most developed flavors, and strongest finish of the three. -
Larceny Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 1, 2018 (edited September 22, 2018)Tasted alongside Old Forrester Statesman and Jim Beam Black Extra Aged. Dull nose, oak with a slight chocolate note. Smooth flavor that is on the sweeter side, expands quickly. Some vanilla, back end finishes with roasted corn. No strong oak presence. Shorter finish. Least favorite of the three. Nothing offensive about the flavor profile, but nothing jumping out as noteworthy either. A decent introductory bourbon that would be in a first flight recommendation for others, but more of a mixer for me. -

surprisingly calm nose. more leather and butterscotch notes on light nose. deep nose very smooth, no spice or burn. I'm intrigued... first drink surprisingly alive following that nose. great flavor, but short. Let's see how second taste goes. getting more vanilla on this nose. More burn, but just ate a chip that skewed the palette. Tasted Noah's Mill and Pikesville next to each other - Pikesville has more spice, almost mintish note... I think I'm appreciating ryes more...Doc Crow's Southern Smokehouse & Raw Bar
