Talisker 10 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed December 6, 2020 (edited January 27, 2021)This scotch is the best that I have had. I am a huge MEZCAL fan along with obviously a bourbon fan and I feel I got a little of both on this whiskey. The front has a bit of sweetness followed with a heavy smoke on mid pallet. The smoke is reminiscent of the mezcal smoke that I have gotten before. It then finishes with fruity sweetness which correlates with bourbon finishes. I loves this scotch and it’s around 60 dollars where I live which is a great buy. I feel this scotch may have subconsciously invited me into the scotch world. 93/100 my rating. Cheers 🥃 -
Old Forester 1897 Bottled In Bond
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 14, 2020 (edited February 15, 2021)Here we have it, another fine old forester product. I’ve sipped on it the last two evenings and the verdict is in, 89 and on the edge of a 90 for me. Such bold flavors on this one, cherries, bananas, leather, and oak. I feel I may not have appreciated this at the beginning of my bourbon journey but being at this journey for 10 years or so I love this style of whiskey. I enjoy the heat on this because it’s so well balanced with the other flavors. I’d have to try this next to the 1910 to see which one I like better! Cheers 🥃 -
Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed October 6, 2020 (edited February 19, 2021)I get almost like a caramel cinnamon apple on the taste and the middle of the finish the rye kicks just enough then finishes smoothly.. I really enjoyed this one a lot and could be my current favorite sipper. I actually, for fun did a side by side with this and Blantons and this made Blantons look like an unrefined school boy..There is much more flavor on this one. Cheers🥃 -
Old Forester 100 Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 26, 2020 (edited December 7, 2020)Another good old forester that doesn’t leave me disappointed. I picked this up for 24 bucks and it’s a steal! Has the OF banana note up front that I love along with a cherry note and nice wood flavor. Finishing nicely with the rye note and finish goes for a bit. These Old Foresters always seem to impress me lately, I’m late to the party on these. -
Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed September 22, 2020 (edited October 6, 2020)I bought the Eric Church version bc I love whiskey and been a huge fan of Church since 07 so I said “what the hay.” The banana sweetness is up front and carries through the middle and tapers off. I get a nice wood and a hint of cigar to it. Not a lot of notes, mostly bananas and wood but a very nice pour. If it wasn’t for the short finish I’d give it a 90/100 but had to take away a point. 89/100 and I’m not blown away and honestly left a little disappointed bc I set the bar pretty high with this one. All and all a nice whiskey, not worth what I paid though, would’ve bought the OF 1910 if I would do it again. -
Blanton's Original Single Barrel
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 6, 2020 (edited September 24, 2020)The presentation is the best in the bourbon game and that is what you’re paying for in this whiskey. If this stuff were in a regular bottle I think it’s worth around $30. It’s very smooth but sort of a one trick pony. It’s a bit heavy on the wood with lighter fruit flavors. It’s a nice sipper but most of the buffalo trace bourbons are better than this one. I think that the wellers have a similar profile and I enjoy them better than this. I’ll let my bottle air out for a month or two and come back to it. I actually prefer a belle Meade or old grand dad 114 for a higher rye bourbon. -
MB Roland Still and Barrel Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 5, 2020 (edited January 20, 2021)This whiskey is definitely interesting. I did like the flavor profiles on the very front end but the finish just wasn’t for my palate. I feel it tasted similar to a Canadian whiskey and scotch rather than bourbon that my palate is used to. I enjoyed the higher heat and I do think it would go well in a cocktail but neat it’s just not for me. -
Old Grand-Dad Bonded Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 14, 2020 (edited December 11, 2020)Okay okay I’m trying to calm down... I’ve had this bourbon at a bar in St. Louis when I lived there and loved it then from what I remembered. 4 years later I’m at a liquor store on a Friday night and thought to myself from all the reviews I’ve read the majority of the people are very impressed, so I snagged it. My review tonight is nothing short of the same, this whiskey is 26 bucks and actually has a lengthy finish!! I don’t know if I’ve had a whiskey of this price at this era with a finish like this. I taste butterscotch, Caramel, a nice touch of sweetness and corn. This whiskey hits my flavor profiles for my palate and is a must keeper for my bar at all times. The rye hits you on the back end and helps it finish out nicely. My wife is gone for the night and it just may be me and old grand daddy making memories.... Cheers 🥃 -
Knob Creek 9 Year Single Barrel Reserve
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 1, 2020 (edited December 11, 2020)This bourbon is extremely well balanced and to my pallet doesn’t drink quite as hot as the 120 proof that it is. I get many flavors to which all balance each other perfectly. I get cherry, leather, chocolate, and oak. The cherry comes off as an extremely dark cherry as does the chocolate a dark chocolate. This whiskeys finish may be the best part, it goes and goes. Parts of this reminds me of Henry McKenna but much bolder. -
George Dickel 11 Year Bottled in Bond Tennessee Whisky (Fall 2008)
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed August 1, 2020 (edited February 19, 2021)I really enjoyed this whiskey. I tried to find the 13 year and had no luck, but this was available. I taste cinnamon, apple, cherry, and oak. Almost like a cinnamon apple n cherry pie. Sometimes I get a medicinal flavor also and not in a bad way. Longer finish and very well balanced.
