Nose: Buttery almost shortbread cookie note, vanilla, lemon citrus, rubber, medicinal Palate: Shortbread cookie, salted caramel, some farmyard funk, peat smoke rolling in Finish: Smoke, hay, mineral note I think the only thing that keeps this from being a great whisky in my opinion is the grassy, hay note on the finish. I don’t like to sit with that. Everything else is great!

Knob Creek Small Batch Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 12, 2022 (edited December 14, 2022)One of my favorite ryes. There’s a little nostalgia because it was one of the first whiskies I had. Also, I get a spice cake note which is the type of cake I always have on my birthday. Nose: vanilla, licorice, bubble gum, brown sugar Palate: Brown sugar, vanilla, spice cake, peanuts Finish: vanilla, oak, spice cake -
Craigellachie 13 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 11, 2022 (edited January 15, 2023)I’ve heard it said that a good whisky will take you on a journey and leave you with the desire for another sip. This whisky checks that box for me. The first sip took me through a symphony of flavors and I spent the rest of the glass trying to figure out what I just tasted. Nose: Honey, heather, hay/grass, sweet malty notes, dried pineapple, pear, green apple, lemon, creme brûlée Palate: Salted caramel, honey, toffee, poached pear, spice, fig, raisin Finish: Caramel, spice (cinnamon and nutmeg) -
This is my first rum review. I’m branching out from whiskey. Nose: brown sugar, pineapple, artificial cherry, raisin, sherry (is this sherry finished?) Palate: licorice and tobacco at first, then raisin, coconut, pineapple, peach, cherry Finish: very mild; licorice, raisin, hint of cinnamon, and what seems like the syrup from a dole pineapple cup This seems like a good start to rum exploration. It’s a decent sipping rum. I don’t see myself reaching for this often though.

Royal Brackla 12 Year Sherry Cask Finish (Oloroso)
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed July 8, 2022 (edited July 11, 2022)Nose: Stewed strawberry, plum, orange marmalade, honey, hazelnut, molasses Palate: Slightly astringent at first, rounds out into honey, pear, spice, strawberry, plum, Dr. pepper notes. Finish: Caramel, Cinnamon spice, honey, berry jam Probably the only thing keeping it from being a 5 for me is the astringent flavor on the palate. Still my favorite sherried 12 year year old I’ve had. -
Nose: Sweet with rubber and iodine Palate: Some citrus. White sugar and caramel notes. Rubber and iodine to follow. Finish: I get some coastal elements on the finish. Campfire ash. Also, maybe floral. This is one of the better peated single malts out there. Especially for beginners. None of the flavors seem to be too challenging.
