Springbank 10 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed January 23, 2017 (edited May 5, 2017)Drinking neat: Salty, honeydew melon, lemon meringue, chile spice, dessert wine, fruitcake, charcoal, lighter fluid. Drinking this right after Hazelburn, I'm surprised how poorly it compares. Springbank's nose is nice but Hazelburn's is glorious. Hazelburn's flavor is rich and full while Springbank's seems slightly watered down. Hazelburn's finish is sharp and hot while Springbank's is easy drinking but kind of watery. Overall Springbank is a nice easy drinking whiskey. Worth a try, not a buy. -
Hazelburn 12 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed January 23, 2017 (edited April 24, 2018)Drinking neat: Floral, fruity, white cake, frosting, tobacco, lemon meringue, spice, young oak, honeydew melon, burnt sugar, dessert wine, cologne. A sugar sweet whiskey with a big glorious floral/melon nose. Somewhat short with a sharp hot finish. The nose is irresistible and I can't get enough. The taste is enjoyable but I can't say I'm blown away by it. It's worth trying but not buying. -
Redbreast 12 Year Cask Strength
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed January 5, 2017 (edited November 24, 2017)Cinnamon oats, spicy oak, burnt sugar, stewed fruits, candied yams, mint, floral, plant, potpourri, vanilla. It's hard to find distinct aromas/flavors. It's muddled, like liquid burnt sugar and spices. I might have to revisit this one. -
Aberlour A'bunadh
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 4, 2017 (edited November 16, 2017)Drinking neat: Huge decadent sherry bomb, chile/mango Mexican candy, fruit rollup, dark cherry, musky spicy wood, fruitcake, stewed fruit, raisin, potpourri, candle, vanilla custard, burnt sugar, cigar leaf. Extremely rich and oily, long spicy finish, dangerously drinkable. -
Pencil shavings, dusty oak, eggnog, Christmas spice, maraschon cherries, vanilla, orchard fruits, burnt caramel, glue, brandy, spicy rye, sugar sweet, hot spicy finish. Decent, it's the perfect holiday winter warmer with its egg nog, Xmas spice, and orchard fruits. It's noticeably hotter though than the +62% ABV Bookers I recently had. Definitely worth trying.

Booker's Bourbon Batch 2015-02 "Dot's Batch"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 21, 2016 (edited January 11, 2020)Drinking neat: Lots of spicy cedar, musky oak, burnt caramel, buttered cinnamon toast, creamed corn, oily and decadent, easy drinking for it's proof, very spicy like a rye. Dangerously drinkable but I'm not so sure it tastes/smells much better than a Woodford Reserve or a Old Grand Dad BiB.
